UBC nursing application 2011

Published

Hello,

I'm new to the site and I saw the thread for last years appilcants to UBC nursing so I thought I would start one for this year.

How is the application going for everyone, any tips from 2010 intake?

oh wow it's great to see that I'm not the only one stressing about getting into nursing!

I'm at UBCO and trying to get into UBCO nursing. It seems like everyone else is trying to get into UBC van and has interviews. I wish UBCO didnt just look at my GPA and looked at all the volunteering I have done in the past...

Is UBCO's nursing program a 4 year program or a 2 year one?

It's a 4 year program

Well folks, that's it for me. Received notice this morning that I was unsuccessful. I've been accepted elsewhere but I'm still disappointed. Oh well, on to the next.

In case the information is of interest/help to anyone else, the email tells me that the average academic score of applicants invited for an interview this year is 78.26% (mine was 77.10%). I know I was unsuccessful based on my supplemental application, but obviously I don't know what specifically was wrong with it (i.e. form or content.) Apparently my supplemental was, as they worded it, in "the top 75%" (but not the top 50%).

Good luck to everyone who's still waiting to hear!

aww where did you get accepted?

I was just sent my letter saying I didn't get an interview. I graduated from UBC with a degree in HKIN, had an average above 82 and still didn't get accepted. I guess I didn't realize how much they weighed on the supplemental application...oh well! Good luck to everyone who is still waiting to hear back and for those who have interviews!

didn't get in either =(

Sorry to hear so many bad news

Well, I think we all should stay positive in any case. It is not the end of the world. Although of course it is unpleasant.

Also, even for people who have an interview it is not over yet! Kind of slow torture waiting for the interview

I'm curious as to how those that got offered an interview got such a high grade on the application portion. Clearly the application is weighed more heavily.

I felt I did a lot of volunteer, leadership roles from a variety of different places. Was it the way you described the work? I wrote one sentence describing the title as well as the job description. Is it advisable to write more?

Get more leadership experience?

Write a better personal statement?

I guess what I'm getting at , "is long term work better than a variety of different work?

Hey guys I didnt get accepted either :( I don't know why because I know many languages fluently such as English, Spanish, Punjabi, Hindi, Urdu and some french. I did a lot of Volunteer work and my GPA is 82%. I did my studies in India till age 12 and then my middle schooling and half high schooling in New Zealand and finished my High schooling in USA, California. my Supplement application was weighted in the last 25%? I am really confused and kind of mad :/

anyway good luck to everyone who has got the invitation for the interview. All I can say is rock it and dress to impress :)

imsecretlyonyourside, your questions are not exactly easy to answer.

Personally, I was working hard (I mean I was trying hard to make sure that this tiny piece of writing says everything I was trying to say) on my personal statement, but I did rather sloppy job for the shorter answers. In fact, I even talked about personal experiences. All in all, I was trying to be myself. I just simply described all my experiences as they are.

Also. I have over 2 years (total) of volunteer experience including health care and marginal leadership roles. My GPA is higher than average of those offered an interview (few percent only). My working experience is so-so, but it does demonstrate some kind of "personal development".

The evaluation of the supplemental and the GPA goes like 50% - 50%. I'm sure there is a cut off for the GPA and cut off for the supplemental. How exactly they are being evaluated, I don't know. BUT supplemental is important!

WOW! I don't know. I would imagine that knowing so many languages would help! Maybe that was the way you wrote it??
