UBC BSN September 2017

Published

Hi Everyone!

I've been searching for a thread for applicants to UBC's BScN program for September 2017, but I haven't found one. Please feel free to point me in the direction of an existing thread, or add to this one! I'm applying to UBC, U of T, and UWO for September, but UBC is definitely my first choice. Looking forward to hearing from everyone!

:)

Honestly, I didn't know that they would accept to third year either. I thought it was four years only and I only applied because there wasn't an extra fee. Then when I got my acceptance letter, it said 3rd year. I will ask them about that though just to be sure.

I found this on their site:

[h=2]Applicants from a College or University[/h]The minimum academic standing to qualify for admission to the University as a transfer student from a college or university is successful completion of 24 transferable credits with a C average (60% where 50% is a passing grade), or grade point average of 2.0 (calculated on a 4.0-point scale1). Applicants presenting fewer than 24 credits are evaluated on the basis of both final secondary school grades and the partial post-secondary studies completed.

For applicants presenting more than 24 transferable credits, the admission average is based on the average of the most recently completed 30 credits of college or university courses attempted, including failed and repeated courses, unless otherwise prescribed by the program to which admission is sought.

Because of enrolment limitations, most programs require a higher average for admission than the University minimum, and may require a minimum standing in specified courses. Applicants should consult the relevant faculty or school entry requirements for a statement of admission requirements for the program to which they seek admission. To be eligible for second year, applicants must normally have successfully completed 30 credits, and satisfied all promotion requirements for advancement to that year. Applicants to third year must have successfully completed 54-60 credits, and satisfied all promotion requirements for advancement to that year.

Ohh so you probably have some nursing credits already!!

Ohhh okay. They didn't really specify on the site. But maybe, I did do my undergrad in Biochemistry so I probably have the core science prereqs.

Thank you! I was pretty confused to be honest.

From everyone I have spoken to at UBC Okanagan they only accept into 1st of the 4 year program. Looking at their curriculum there would be lots missing from two year of "skipped" nursing classes. Unless as @ knchilton10 mentioned, you have transferrable nursing credits or they somehow make an exception. Goodluck!

Hello Everyone!

I have found so much comfort in this thread. So thank you everyone!. I don't think I could go through thus alone. With such a shortage on nurses you would think they would make it easier to get in! I just got back from vacation. But I was keeping up with the thread! We have made it through the casper and it's now March! Not that much longer and we will all know one way or another!.hang in there everyone!

Hi everybody! Just wanted to say how awesome it is that everyone on this thread is really supportive of one another, it definitely makes this application process a lot less stressful. Good luck to all of us in this last stretch!

Hi there,

I agree, the application process is daunting, but I am sure if it is meant to be, it will be. From the information session I attended last September, it sounds like this is a really popular program and they are swamped with potential applicants. I'm sure it's hard to wittle all applicants down to the top few. Hope everyone's CASPer test went okay! It definitely wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. The main issue was the short time limit to answer all of the questions but I'm sure it was also designed to test how quick we are to think on our feet. Is anyone else completing the TRU online A&P courses in the meantime?

Have a lovely day everyone!

Yes I am taking both right now! Well, I am about to write the final for the first one and then start the second one! :)

Hi!

I am writing both finals on Saturday. I was going to sit the BIOL 1593 final at the beginning of February but it was cancelled due to the snow in Abbotsford. It's a bit crazy that they were both scheduled on the same day but it will be good to get them out of the way. How are you finding them?

Cheers :)

Good luck on both finals! I am studying for the first one and there is a lot of information haha. We will see what happens. How is the second part compared to the first course?

Thank you! There is a lot of info to memorize but I find that the online modules give a nice snapshot of the material. Sometimes the textbook is a bit too vague and have to look at the explanatory text on Blackboard. The second course is okay. Not sure how much you have looked into BIOL 1693 yet but it covers everything from the endocrine system, cardiovascular system, respiratory system, digestive system, lymphatic system and immunity, fluid balance, nutrition and energy usage, reproductive system, urinary system, and development. The first course is more to do with the nervous system towards the end. Good luck!

How's everyone feeling? Hopefully just over one month to go! :)
