Hi Everyone!
I've been searching for a thread for applicants to UBC's BScN program for September 2017, but I haven't found one. Please feel free to point me in the direction of an existing thread, or add to this one! I'm applying to UBC, U of T, and UWO for September, but UBC is definitely my first choice. Looking forward to hearing from everyone!
:)
I am currently taking bio 235. I started Dec 1st and am rushing to finish it now. I started the course out pretty slow and realize now that I should have tried harder to get ahead in the beginning, rather than rushing now that I've received my acceptance. I have enjoyed the material, although the amount of detail has been hard to take in. I have a degree in criminology and haven't taking anything more than bio 101, so this course has been quite challenging.
About the deadlines - the general UBC application and transcripts from previous schools are due at the beginning of December. The nursing supplemental application and in progress transcripts for prereq's aren't due until the end of January. The final official transcripts for all courses are due June 15th. Like tdmah, I was conditionally accepted without consideration of my Bio 235 grade. When I submitted my in progress report in Jan, I didn't have any grades posted, only proof of enrollment.
Seems like you will have plenty of time to finish!
@tdmah - I haven't read anywhere that there is a minimum grade for perquisites. I checked the UBC BSN admissions page and all it says is you have to complete the course. Athabasca requires a minimum of 50% to pass the course, so my best guess would be you only need to "pass." At least I'm hoping.
I recently talked to Athabasca registrar and I mentioned to my TA when I started the course that I'll be in a rush to finish and they have put a "rush" on my final grades and transcripts. I will write the final exam on May 18th and pay the $50 fee to have my final transcripts faxed to UBC, rather than mail. I could write on May 11th, but I don't think that will give me enough time to study all the material. I'm on chapter 24 and I'm working, so I don't have a lot of time to study.
Do you know if UBC needs the transcript to be received or June 15th or sent out on June 15th?
Finishing this course is almost more stressful than waiting to hear back from UBC about acceptance/rejection!
Thank you for all the replies they are really helpful!! I have taken one course before via correspondence and had to learn the entire course through a textbook, but it wasn't through Athabasca and I didn't have to have phone-in quizzes or exams with invigilators. It was a pathology course. I have taken one anatomy course (from September - December 2016) and many biology courses in university. But they've mainy been in evolutionary biology or genetics. I am worried as I have heard this course is hard, but I am really hoping to ace it!!
Congrats to those accepted. I have been rejected and was wondering how many tries people have applied, its very hard to keep hope after being rejected.
Don't give up hope! I was accepted this year and this was my third time applying. The first time I was waitlisted for an interview but didn't make it up the list to receive one. Last year I was simply rejected. The second time was harder than the first for me, but keeping my focus on my other studies and activities helped a lot.
I really do believe that determination pays off and shows through in your application. This type of admission process is really hard to pass through on the first try, and most people I've talked to (whether they are applying to nursing or med school or another professional program) say it really is a matter of perfecting your application so that it shows your strengths off in the best way possible.
Best of luck in whatever comes next for you, and for a future application if you choose to make one.
Hey! I'm in the same boat as you guys - got accepted (hurray!) and am finishing the Athabasca BIOL 235. I'm taking the final May 14th :/ It's been a great course, so interested, but SOOOO much material. I started in October, but I also work full time, so haven't had a bunch of time to study.

Congratulations!!! And good luck on the final exam for BIOL 235!
May I ask what your final year average was?
Thank you! I'm not sure what my final year average was since I never calculated it, but I got only As, so I'd say A grade (not sure what that is in %). Are you applying for next year? It's a long process, but I found that doing it taught me a lot about myself by putting all my experiences on paper, and it was really a rewarding. Best of luck!
Hi @tdmah - could you post what they tell you on this forum. I'd also like to know about the prereqs requirement since I'm also finishing up BIOL 235. I'm not too worried about getting passing, but I'd like to know if there is a grade cut off. Also, CONGRADULATIONS on being accepted. Look forward to meeting you in the Fall! And thanks for creating this thread :)

Oh wow that's high! I am applying for next year (still finishing up undergrad). I have As and Bs. I'm still waiting on 2 marks from this semester but so far my final year average is like low 80s. Maybe like 83%. I have a lot to write in my supplementary application but my GPA is low. It's good to know it's a rewarding experience... I'm actually sort of excited to write the supplementary part lol.
Thanks!

I started this course January 10th, and I'll be done on May 9th. I'm not going to lie... it's been a lot of work. You have to teach yourself all the material by reading a textbook. It's incredibly dry. But it won't negatively impact your chances - I got accepted and I'm not done yet :)
