UBC BSN September 2019 Applicants

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hi everybody! I haven't found an active discussion thread for September 2019 applicants to UBC's BSN program yet, so here is one!

Hey guys!

This is my first time discovering this link. I know I'm a bit late to the game. I got accepted for UBC for September 2019 and since I'm not from Vancouver I am freaking out a bit! I was trying to look up professors on rate my prof and get a feeling for their teaching style but got no answers. Does anyone have any suggestions for certain profs on their teaching and marking style? any tips? or possibly know where to look? Also, I tried to figure out how to use the UBC bookstore and I wasn't able to select the upcoming September semester. Am I the only one experiencing this? Looking forward to meeting you guys!

Looking forward to meet you as well!! I tried to search up reviews on ratemyprof but i also couldn't find anything. I think we'll all just find out on the first day of classes lol ?

UBC bookstore probably won't publish the textbook list until second week of August but the textbook list is up on the UBC School of Nursing webpage + there's a link for a used textbooks google doc on the UBC BSN cohort page (facebook)!

I just received admission today but UBC declined my application in May. Are you able to defer the program until September 2020?

declined as in on ssc? ssc will update in the next few business days if you received your admission today

deferring.. hmm.. you'll have to ask Ruxandra

Is anyone here possibly driving to school? I got a place in Richmond and it would take forever to get there by bus. If you guys are driving or know anything about parking please let me know! I tried to look up parking areas and apparently, students aren't allowed to get a permit to park in the health sciences parking which is right by our classes. does anyone know where we can get a permit and park? maybe the hospital since we are nursing students?

You're able to defer! @Kathleen L I think a few students who deferred their admission last year are attending Nursing this year ? I'm 10% wondering if I should defer mine as well, even though I completed the BLS, Mask Fit, signing forms etc requirements already. I want to focus on my mental health first due to recent events (deadline to submit deferral application is Aug 15), yet at the same time I refuse to wait a year before attending (I'm super excited) and I feel like I CAN get through the program with friends and good supports. Hopefully everything cools down for me in August before orientation lol

Hey @mb96 ! Sounds like working on the self is important before going into this intense program but it's exciting to start something new at the same time.

I was initially rejected in May and was 57 on the waitlist; I thought for sure I would not get in so I changed my plans and got certified as a personal trainer and I am working full-time as a counsellor. I am not sure what to do considering I have limited time to give my notice and now the pressure is on! My first love is fitness however I am very interested in health care and would love to work in mental health and/or neonatal.

Oh that's super cool -- what an admirable profession! Yeah, it's honestly up to you. It sounds like a hard career decision/switch between two interests! I hope you can figure it out soon.

I'd love to work in pediatrics or mental health as well!

Does any one know if working part-time is possible during program, even 8 hours a week? - let me know ?

I'm hoping you decide to start this September!! But of course you know your own limits so go with what you feel is best for your health. I have been through my fair share of mental health concerns and it's been a long journey through university because of it, so just know that you will definitely find a great support system (including me!!!) who really do understand these struggles.

Yay, I’m 90% sure that I want to attend this September...just something to think about — thanks so much for the encouragement ?
