UBC BSN September 2019 Applicants

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hi everybody! I haven't found an active discussion thread for September 2019 applicants to UBC's BSN program yet, so here is one!

Haha yeah, I talked with her quite a bit during the application process since I am a Canadian citizen living in the U.S and wanted to make sure that wasn't going to hurt me.

Did she say it hurts?

I remember reading the FAQ and it said UBC gives preference to Canadian citizens or permanent residents, but it depends what Ruxandra specifically says

You're right. I am considered as a Canadian citizen and as if I went to school domestically. Preference is given to Citizens and permanent residents so luckily, it won't hurt me!

Since you’re a Canadian citizen living in the US, I definitely think you have nothing to worry about!

All this waiting is killing me ??

Congrats to those who got into their Nursing programs at other Canadian universities!!! Sadly, attending McMaster/anything outside BC isn’t economically/financially feasible for me (I continue to live with my family due to skyrocketing costs of living), so UBC and Langara 2020 are my primary Nursing choices (perhaps even Douglas or KPU).

I would love to try to rank myself but I have NO clue on how UBC even ranks our supplemental/CASPer. I don't even have a good idea of how I did on those :( my GPA is currently 3.97/4.33 or 3.87/4.00

Same I’m clueless. My GPA is ~3.80-something/4.33 (on the UBC Arts scale - my percentage is 82.5% based on my most recent 30 credits. I’m also not sure if that’s the same conversion UBC Nursing will use) so I’d say it’s between 2-3 as well? I’m also worried my supplemental was too “personal” (if there’s such a thing) — supp is maybe 3? Funnily enough the CASPer seemed okay to me overall so that’s probably 2. Anyway, I’m sure none of my guesses are correct, and applicants here have very high GPAs (higher than mine or so - I’m only 1% above the 81% admissions average for previous cohorts ? I’m dreading an admissions decision).

The admission average a couple years ago was 80%, grades ranging from 70%-90%. So people with 70% can be accepted especially if they have a stellar supplemental!

OH it was 80%? Then hopefully I do have some small chance. Thanks for telling us that! Applicant grades ranging from 70-90% is a wide range. I'm glad UBC takes supplementals/CASPers into consideration besides grades.

Does anyone think today will be the day? Given Ruxandra works Mon-Thurs & being informed that admissions decisions go out by the end of this week... Is it really today?! Freaking out ?

I'm with you on this one - I can only attend a Nursing program in Vancouver due to finances too!

Now that I think of it, maybe my supplemental could be rated a 2?? But I also really have NO idea how they are going to rate this either.

I have 5 years of paid healthcare experience, volunteer healthcare experience, experience living abroad in two countries, teaching experience, experience working in a regulated profession according to a code of ethics, a diploma, and two years of university credits from SFU and UBC.

I am really overthinking things and going crazy haha. If we don't hear back in the next two days, i'm pretty sure i'm going to lose it ?

I have no idea! Me too - we're all anxious! I'm tempted to stay off the SSC until the weekend haha
