UBC BSN September 2019 Applicants

Hi everybody! I haven't found an active discussion thread for September 2019 applicants to UBC's BSN program yet, so here is one!

Based on someone else's post earlier in this thread, we are apparently ranked on a scale from 1-4 (with 1 being the top 25% and 4 being the lowest 25%) on the following categories: grades, supplemental, and CASPer.

I'm just curious, how would you rank yourselves based on the applicant profiles you've read here?

Based on what i've read, I feel like I could possibly rank as: grades 3 (?) (GPA = 3.95 on the 4.33 scale if they include my A&P II that I finished in January), supplemental 2/3??, CASPer 4 (really feel like I bombed this one)

Not sure if doing this will make you feel better or worse lol but i'm just trying to pass the time ?

I would love to try to rank myself but I have NO clue on how UBC even ranks our supplemental/CASPer. I don't even have a good idea of how I did on those :( my GPA is currently 3.97/4.33 or 3.87/4.00

I have a 3.87/4.33 gpa, feel like that’ll land between 3-2??

Wish I got more personal looking back on my supplemental though! And didn’t feel amazing about the CASPer. Good until the personal questions and then I blanked

All I can say about my Casper is I felt so unprepared despite reading up on core competencies. And sometimes I worry I was too personal on my supplemental. The waiting is brutal sometimes!

Usually Ubc offices close around 5 so I’m sure it’s safe to assume that emails won’t be sent out today?

Eeekkk I have that self doubt too. I’ve been feeling super down and uneasy about it. We’ll see though ?

I’m assuming Friday if they said the end of the week, I’m totally freaking out!

I think it will be Friday, too! UBC Nursing is celebrating 100 years this year and they have a gala tomorrow, so i'm sure that most of the faculty will be there. However, they could send out admissions before 5pm...... Ugh the nerves!

I have 3 years of paid Work Experience in healthcare, volunteering, and a Bachelors Degree so a (1) for supplemental.

Casper- maybe a (2) or (3).

My last 30 credits/10 courses i have a 4.33/4.33 i think? It’s a 90.4 so just made the cutoff according to the arts undergrad gpa conversion chart lol. So i would assume 1? Unless they take into account my prereqs (did poorly in physiology because i took it when i didn’t plan on going back to school haha). Supplemental... i wanna say 2-3. As for casper, i THINK i did well since i had to submit my results to mcmaster and got in there the first round of acceptances. So 1-2? Who knows..

My anxiety has plummeted astronomically since getting into mcmaster, and even more so when i got accepted to uoft lol. I honestly didn’t think I was going to get into anywhere let alone #1 in canada (according to macleans), but i’ve been 3/4 so far, just waiting for ubc. It just goes to show that even if you’re feeling extremely doubtful, things can go the way you want them to! Even if i don’t get accepted to ubc, my backup plan doesn’t seem too shabby. If this year doesn’t work out for you, keep trying!! If it’s meant to be, it will be (cue music lol).

This waiting is killing me! I should have called them to see how they calculate GPA for students whose classes are each 5 credits since they only count the last 30 credits... I would hope they don't base it on my last 6 classes... with all my classes counted, I have a 3.7/4.0 so it will be interesting to see what they come up with. I didn't mind the CASPer test, I preferred it over the TEAS and NLN PAX tests I had to take for other schools... I don't feel like my supplemental was very good though... I am a CNA and EMT and have over 200 hours volunteering at an AIDS hospice center so I am hoping I have a small chance!

The admissions coordinator, Ruxandra only works Mon-Thurs so maybe we will hear tomorrow before the Gala?! Fingers crossed!

I think what impressed me the most when reading your comment was the fact that you’ve done your research and know that she works M-T. Here’s to hoping we find out tomorrow hahah!
