Hello fellow applicants!
I was browsing and did not see a thread for the 2018 UBC BSN applicants so thought I'd start one.
I am just finishing up my supplemental nursing application and hope to finish my application by the end of today and have already submitted my transcript. Just wanted to know who else is applying/GPA/past experiences with UBC/any tips or information for the application anyone wishes to share.
A bit about myself.. I am currently an LPN working at a hospital and also work part-time in retail in a leadership role, I do not have a Bachelor's degree but am applying anyways (hoping my supplemental weighs heavy in my favour). I have a GPA of 3.55 and will have ~30 credits at the end of this Fall term. I have some volunteer experience working with companies during their charity campaigns and am hoping to do more volunteer work this year. I will also be applying to BCIT, Langara and Queen's University once their applications open up.
Good luck to everyone and please share any information you're able too!
Hi everyone, I've been following this thread for a while now and have also applied for the UBC BSN program. I'm in the same situation as some of you having been accepted into BCIT but have been waiting to hear back from UBC to pay the deposit. I'm really hoping we hear back from UBC before the BCIT deposit deadline!
I also wanted to mention KPU has a 2-year advanced entry BSN program for those with previous degrees. There is no waitlist from year to year and acceptance is based on your application date. So if you meet the minimum requirements and are one of the first 40 people to apply for that intake, you'll be accepted.
There is another subforum on this site where other Cdn programs are discussed. Langara & BCIT have their own threads, and I see there's a KPU thread as well. https://allnurses.com/canada-nursing-programs/
Just to note - I think ubc is the only university around that accepts applicants with degrees/transfer credits that are older. BCIT does but there was some caveats. Kwantlen won't look at anything over 7 years (I think) for their advanced entry BscN and you'd still have to do their year of "health foundation" before you can apply to their nursing program.
There was no way I was going to go and redo courses like psych 101 and stats at this point in my life. 20 months and full acceptance of a precious degree regardless of how old is where it's at :)
UBC is the only school I applied to.
hey everyone this wait seems like it is getting harder and harder. Last week I was in the states but did keep up with the forum here. Even though I was away.... to go away for a week and come home and still have no news it is frustrating! hows everyone doing? hopefully this will be the week!
I'm trying not to think about it too much (if possible) because it was such a roller coaster then total let down last week. I'm finishing up my anatomy courses and was so distracted, it really messed with my studies! I write the exams this weekend...nothing like science courses by distance. Anyone else do them thru TRU?

Ugh! I'm the same. Last week I couldn't focus on any of my course and it has been so frustrating. I'm doing mine thru Athabasca. Good luck this weekend. I'm hoping to do mine early June.

Yup to above. The big difference is how long they are, what the admission requirements are (some need just senior high school level Chem and Math, some a first academic year prep) and how much transfer credit they allow. UBC is great in the sense that the program is shorter than many others and is great preparation for graduate studies. For comparison, VCC is 36 months long with ~2+ year waitlist, Douglas is 1 year prep + wait period of ~2 years + 3 years in program, etc. IIRC Langara and BCIT are mainly some prerequisites and then GPA but no waitlist. Not as familiar with KPU but I know they have a foundation year and you apply into 2nd year as well.
