UBC BSN September 2018 Applicants

Published

Hello fellow applicants!

I was browsing and did not see a thread for the 2018 UBC BSN applicants so thought I'd start one.

I am just finishing up my supplemental nursing application and hope to finish my application by the end of today and have already submitted my transcript. Just wanted to know who else is applying/GPA/past experiences with UBC/any tips or information for the application anyone wishes to share.

A bit about myself.. I am currently an LPN working at a hospital and also work part-time in retail in a leadership role, I do not have a Bachelor's degree but am applying anyways (hoping my supplemental weighs heavy in my favour). I have a GPA of 3.55 and will have ~30 credits at the end of this Fall term. I have some volunteer experience working with companies during their charity campaigns and am hoping to do more volunteer work this year. I will also be applying to BCIT, Langara and Queen's University once their applications open up.

Good luck to everyone and please share any information you're able too!

I've also been checking the UBC Nursing Admissions blog just in case an update gets posted there saying something painfully horrible like "responses are now expected to be sent out by mid-May" ... I think I might implode in the meantime haha

Yeah I'm thinking it's too late now... I guess it will be Monday?!

I just called admissions and got the voicemail for Ruxandra, and it said she works Mon-Thurs. So I'm guessing we won't hear today... Everyone try to suppress those nerves over the weekend. Fingers crossed there's (good!) news on Monday.

Hi guys! the anxiety is driving me absolutely crazy. Last year everyone found out around the same time. they seemed to come out between 11am-12pm. rejection and acceptance were sent out at the same time. So i hope that eases some nerves. I don't think we will hear today I think we will find out monday. Last year we found out on Thursday April 27th. It was Ruxandra who sent out the the emails. So seeing as she is not in today itll be monday. i wish everyone the the best of luck and fingers crossed we will all be very happy come monday!:) hang in there everyone!

Good luck on Monday everyone! The suspense is awful, but if it is meant to be it will be. Yes, last year I received my rejection e-mail mid-morning. Hopeful for better luck this time around!

@Ellie11 I feel you!I remember the moment that rejection email came in. As a second time applicant, I feel the suspense is almost worse this time around! How are you doing? fingers crossed for better luck for both of us this time around!

@Daisy2016 My goodness. I decided to make the conscious decision to not think about it too much. However, as the end of April draws nearer, I am quite nervous. Been checking my e-mails constantly. I have a feeling that I won't get in, and I hope not to feel too disappointed. Having said that, I know that some second-timers eventually got accepted last year. I don't know whether you were on the discussion board last year, but there were tonnes of posters and pages. I'm wondering if either there are less applicants this time, or they don't know about this forum, or even that some have decided to give up trying to apply again??

Fingers and toes crossed xx

I'm so glad this forum exists. I've been checking it really regularly and find it so helpful knowing we're all going through the same roller coaster of emotions. Sending good thoughts for a patient and peaceful weekend!

@ellie11, was the feedback in the rejection letter helpful at all? Did you find you were able to improve your application for this year? Just asking out of curiousity since I've heard they give a thorough explanation of your standing.

Toes crossed for good news Monday!!

Hi @yoginikrista, I just scrolled back through my e-mails from last year. The breakdown wasn't very detailed and only showed a little chart saying Admission Average Rank, Supplemental Application Score Rank, and CASPer Score Rank. You were given a number indicating for example that you were in the top 50% for that rank. I tried to improve my supplemental by far this time as I wasn't sure what to expect and didn't know how detailed we had to be last time. This forum was useful to gauge how the successful applicants completed their applications. Because they receive so many applications for this program, we shouldn't feel too deflated. I am sure admissions receive many good applications, and have to weed out the ones which stand out the most! Best of luck!

I'm not sure if anyone's seen this since it was updated, but here's a link from the 2017 info session https://nursing.ubc.ca/sites/nursing.ubc.ca/files/documents/BSN%20%20September%202017%20information%20session%20.pdf

The last time I checked it was from the 2015 session, so this has data from the 2017 intake. Looks like the average of acceptance last year was 81%.

Anyone hear anything yet?

Does anyone know if it will it be on the UBC site at the same time as an email?
