UBC BSN September 2018 Applicants

Published

Hello fellow applicants!

I was browsing and did not see a thread for the 2018 UBC BSN applicants so thought I'd start one.

I am just finishing up my supplemental nursing application and hope to finish my application by the end of today and have already submitted my transcript. Just wanted to know who else is applying/GPA/past experiences with UBC/any tips or information for the application anyone wishes to share.

A bit about myself.. I am currently an LPN working at a hospital and also work part-time in retail in a leadership role, I do not have a Bachelor's degree but am applying anyways (hoping my supplemental weighs heavy in my favour). I have a GPA of 3.55 and will have ~30 credits at the end of this Fall term. I have some volunteer experience working with companies during their charity campaigns and am hoping to do more volunteer work this year. I will also be applying to BCIT, Langara and Queen's University once their applications open up.

Good luck to everyone and please share any information you're able too!

Admissions website said they hope to release offers by the end of April. It's always possible there was a delay or that the Admissions Officer is off sick or something, though. Not that that makes the waiting any more comfortable! Haha. If anyone decides to call in to see if there's an update, let us know! :)

Update (but not really): I phoned in but it's just going to voicemail. I'm assuming to prevent interruptions today, but it could also be because Ruxandra is away? Oh well, guess we'll see if anything happens in the next two hours.

I just called as well and it went straight to voicemail... :( I'm feeling a bit frustrated and very stressed, it's hard to focus on anything else with this uncertainty looming overhead. I've been glued to my phone and constantly refreshing my email all day, so it's probably a good time to get some fresh air. Hang in there everyone, who knows when we will find out now but hopefully it will be worth the wait.

It's a little disorienting - maybe it'll be sometime this week, but it would be nice to know if there was a specific date to hold out for, rather than checking in every hour every business day... Hopefully there'll be some news soon.

I was really expecting news today... I guess the wait continues! Hang in there everyone.

I think the admissions office is backed up at the moment - I just heard that they had a glitch in the system and sent out 20,000 application letters that they shouldn't have sent out, so they've had to rescind said offers. My coworker's son is going through it right now. So my assumption is that this glitch has messed everything up. I'm sure we'll hear this week... power of positivity!

That was earlier in April, they sent out 33,000 emails people who were rejected, and had yet to hear if they were accepted to the Jumpstart event they hold every year for the accepted applicants. However, it did upset a lot of prospective students and their parents. So I'm sure they were dealing with a lot of slack from that. Very well could have delayed admissions. Hope you all hear something soon, the wait is brutal!

On another note, has anyone on this forumn applied to the UBCO campus BSN program?

i've been glued to my computer since April 27th...I'm getting so discouraged and impatient I almost feel like I'm never going to hear back..wish there was a date we could just look forward too...I'm from Ontario, so this really isn't a move I can just easily make, I need to really have time to think things through and make the move to BC...there's a lot to consider and the longer it takes to hear back the more anxious I get...really hoping for ANYTHING just a response, rejection or acceptance would help me figure things out.

I called Ruxandra - still not answering. Called the Nursing admin office - they won't tell me, said to contact SSC. I doubt they'd tell us a date either.

So frustrating. I can try to call SSC later but I'm on my way out the door.

I'm from Ontario as well, moved out to Vancouver in October last year. If you need help or tips with your move send me a message! You'll love it out here

crazy... hopefully that means they're really trying to get back to us ASAP without interruption! I would contact SSC but I don't have my phone on me.

Hey Yoginikrista,

thank you SO much. I've been so stressed out about it! Seriously, tell me everything! How do you find the finances compared to Ontario? I know its a lot more expensive out there. How's the life style compared to Ontario? How did you find a rental? How expensive is it? Thanks so much for your willingness to answer my questions! It's actually very helpful!
