Alright who's applying to the UBC Vancouver BSN September 2015 intake? I'm a second year UBC science student who's applying :) Let's all support and communicate with each other for registration help and processing !
Hello everyone,
I am applying as well although I am a little worries my undergrad GPA will hold me back. My last 30 credits are only around 74%, however I have a BSc in Health Sciences and a Masters of Public Health from SFU. I also have been volunteering on and off at BC Children's Hospital since 2008 and have in clinic and coordinating volunteering experience with Canadian Blood Services. I also lead a volunteering-based trip in Ghana a couple of years ago. I have some research experience as well (
Does anyone know what the interview process is like?
Hi everyone,
Like a few of you I am also a current UBC student; my major is Psychology. I've been volunteering in healthcare about a year, and otherwise I've had some pretty varied extracurricular experiences. I took some time off between high school and university and worked a full-time job that gave me some excellent management skills. Other than that I've really just got a bunch of various community service work - working with the homeless, student organizations, teaching kid's dance classes, etc. I'm only applying to UBC. Anyways I've been lurking on these boards for a couple years, and it was about a year ago that I really decided that nursing is the career path for me :)
HlI88 - The interview process is MMI (multiple mini interview) format, like they would use for med school interviews. From what I hear the whole process is quite inclusionary and fairly stress-free.
Hi everyone!
I, too, have applied for the September 2015 intake.
I recently completed my BA in Sociology and Gerontology at SFU, and am currently at Douglas College doing my A&P courses.
Although I also applied to KPU, I am crossing my fingers for UBC as the program is slightly shorter.
Best of luck to everybody here!
Hi ltee,
The interviews are indeed MMI based.
The interviews are done in a batch of 8 rooms/questions. Each room has one interviewer that asks you one question and you have 5 minutes to answer the question.
The questions range from normal interview questions (ie How do you handle x difficult person) to problem solving (ie What would you do if x happened) to your ethics and morals (ie What qualities are appropriate in this situation).
So it's a mix and kind of stressful, especially because it feels like it goes by incredibly quickly. But it's kind of fun and you just really have to be ready to put your best self forward and be able to brush off questions you think didn't go super well.
Good luck!
Thanks j_essim_ac for giving a bit more info about the interviews :) I'm so glad to hear you say it is only a 5 minute response. I was under the impression it was 8 minutes, so 5 minutes seems much more doable. Now that the applications have officially closed, I can't wait to hear back from them! Good luck everyone :)
Hi all!
I've applied for this year's intake too. (I also applied for KPU's post bacc program and Langara- didn't want to put all my applications in one basket! ) My BA is in Anthropology/Sociology with a certificate in Sustainable Community Economic Development. I also studied fine arts at Emily Carr for a couple of years and have a certificate in Arts & Entertainment Management (arts administration) from Capilano University. Professionally I've worked in admin, special events and as a Caregiver (paraplegic, cerebral palsy, Parkinson's, elderly) for over 5 years.
I don't know if anyone else has discovered it but this thread from the 2014 UBC applicants shed a lot of light on the application/ interview/acceptance process and timeline : https://allnurses.com/canada-nursing-programs/ubc-september-2014-883518.html
Good luck everyone!
I am have also applied to UBC & KPU, and recently completed my BA in Anthropology. :)
I have other certifications and a lot of work experience, as I am an older student, but I can see I am not alone. I have been looking through the posts here and there are so many people applying with diverse backgrounds and great resumes and GPAs. When I filled out my supplemental application I thought it would be mostly very young recent grads and that my past experiences would help me stand out, but there is some stiff competition, so I'm a little more nervous. Great to see I am not alone on in my nervousness either though.
Hello everyone!
I won't be applying for another two years because I'd like to finish my current degree in neuroscience. But I was just wondering if anyone currently in the program (or who are now alumni) could share their experience in regards to workload (and maybe general evaluation procedures) and sense of community within the program? Also, what courses in the program are pass/fail and which ones aren't? Thanks so much!
Best of luck to all of those who are applying! :)
Hi everyone,
You are all so talented and over qualified! There seem to be a lot of great candidates in the past that have not been accepted.. I don't know what it comes down to. I guess all we can do is stay true to who we are and put 100% into that application.
I am currently completing my last course this summer to finish my degree in dental science (dental hygiene) at UBC. I have worked as a dental hygienist for 5 years, and still practice fulltime in Vancouver. I've been reading last years thread like a crazy person
Fingers crossed for all of us!

I wouldn't feel so pessimistic if I were you :) I thought I had good chances last year because of my experience, but apparently not... so I really think that it has a lot to do with everything else, and how you write it. I also didn't have, and still don't have, much community involvement. It is a bit discouraging because it took me a few years to pin point exactly which direction I wanted to take within the health care field, and I am confident I can be an excellent nurse, but it all comes down to how you write it and grades.. On my application last year, I told them everything "as it is", not trying to sell myself too much because this is not who I am, but I'm making extra effort to polish all the section this time.
