UB ABS 2015

U.S.A. New York

Anyone on here applying to the University at Buffalo for the ABS program starting in May of 2015?

Yeah my bachelors is in psyc... With a crappy gpa. My pre req grades are decent though. And since July I've been working as a nurse assistant which is not good pay especially since I already have a degree but I was hoping that would help my admission :/

Are you guys in Buffalo/WNY already?

Yes, though I just moved here last year for the first time. I applied to UB and Brockport, and a few places in New England (though I would prefer to stay here if at all possible).

Welcome! I grew up in Buffalo but live in NYC now. If nursing school is really as intense as people tell me it is, and work is out of the question, it makes sense to go to school somewhere with a lower cost of living.

Just curious where everyone took or going to take their pharmacology and pathophysiology course? If possible can you recommend a professor and give the exact course number please.

When I contacted UB to ask whether certain courses at CUNY or in the NYC area would be equivalent for pharmacology, they suggested a couple. Regarding Pharmacology – here are some suggestions:

Pharmacology (UB – PMY 302 = SCI 530 @ BMCC or = AHS 103 @ Nassau or = NUR211 @ Farmingdale). Cayuga Community College also offers an online version – NURS 207.

I'm taking the online pharma class at Cayuga CC right now, and it works great with my schedule, but I have to say I miss lectures like you get in a traditional class. Cayuga only has one professor teaching the class, Linda Alfieri.

I took pathophysiology at CUNY during the spring. I'm waiting to hear from UB whether it'll transfer. I sent the syllabus for review a couple weeks ago, so I should hear soon.

hey. are you in the 10 week course at Cayuga as well or the regular course that started in september? how are you getting along with discussions and the SGA? im taking it right now

I'm in the 10 week course (what about you?) at Cayuga, and I'm not sure what to make of it yet. This is my first online course, and I miss the structure of a weekly lecture. The quizzes seem a little superficial, considering this is material where small slip-ups can have drastic results. I'm having a hard time managing my time and keeping up with the reading and SGA. Something about the online format and requiring comments on one another's discussions feels kind of forced, but how else do you have any sort of class participation?

I've taken a few online courses. This is about my 4th or so. The ones that required discussions always required replies. I HATEEEEEE that part. I think it's pointless and i have a feeling she'll be grading very hard. I'm in the 10 week course too. I feel a bit overwhelmed and i'm having a hard time remembering to post my discussions on Wednesday instead of saturdays. ugh. The SGA is going as well as it possibly could i guess. It's all just a lot and im really worried about that final.

I think for the last two modules, I posted my discussions on Thursday or Friday, and I can't remember whether I commented on anything. I still need to print the SGA and get it bound, and I should probably start making a spreadsheet of drugs for easier review later on. Right now, I always feel like I have so many things to do, I can't decide which one to start/finish first.

i hope you've started working on the SGA. it is A LOT of work. you don't want to fall behind with that. Good luck. i think we're going to need it

Thanks! And good luck to you, too!
