Hi Everyone! I have not seen a thread started for the UPenn ABSN 2017 cycle yet! I wanted to start one and see if anyone else out there wants to chat about it! Very excited to hear back this month!
I submitted my app on 10/14/16 and once all my LORs were submitted 10/28/16, I received an email my application was complete and under manage my account, it states my app is ready for review!
I just got off my phone interview for the Family Health track BSN/MSN program. My interviewer said that because there is a bottleneck I would not be able to start the MSN portion of the program until the year 2021 because there are too many FNP students. She also said that this would affect admission decisions as only about 30 people would be accepted into this year's cohort for FNP. She then suggested me to think about whether I should pursue the pediatric or adult gerontology tracks... anyone else in the FNP program know what they're going to do?
Hey jmroh. 2021? That's crazy! I interviewed December 17th and I wasn't told any of this. But it sounds like your interviewer was implying that you'd be accepted since they're already suggesting other tracks. If they gave me the option of switching and it meant I'd get into the program, I'd definitely do peds. In fact, a year ago I thought I'd be applying to peds tracks at all the schools but I decided on a family specialty instead.
Hi blessingoverflow, I actually have a theory that (for the FNP track) those who got a later interview pushed back to January were less likely into getting the program and she's just suggesting for me to switch because I might have a better chance compared to FNP admissions. So since you had a interview early in December I think you have a high chance of getting in! That's probably why they didn't have to tell you anything which is good for you :) I don't know though haha just a theory but it's strange because she didn't ask me why family health, which is definitely a question I thought she would ask...
kpsf- I had it yesterday 1/26/17. It was so conversational and mellow! I think it is a pro to not applying to a specialty MSN because you can be unsure about the direction you want to take! Filomena offered interviews for me last week and this week so maybe this was the last week of interviews? The decisions will be sent out around feb 10.
Interesting fact she disclosed with me:
60-70% of the ABSN students apply to the MSN degree after their first semester and 90% are accepted from the ABSN group. It can be deferred, too. So you can work in the field for a few years and then go back for the MSN degree (or work part time and school part time dependent on the NP track selected)
I had my interview this week for the BSN/MSN (FNP) program. My interviewer didn't say anything about switching to Adult or Peds tracks because of a bottleneck (she just asked me the usual: why NP, why FNP, etc.), but I DID learn that students may not be able to start the FNP clinical portion until 2021 when I went to an information session.
