U Penn Second Degree ABSN 2017

Published

Hi Everyone! I have not seen a thread started for the UPenn ABSN 2017 cycle yet! I wanted to start one and see if anyone else out there wants to chat about it! Very excited to hear back this month!

I submitted my app on 10/14/16 and once all my LORs were submitted 10/28/16, I received an email my application was complete and under manage my account, it states my app is ready for review!

Heard nothing... no changes on my status either, it just says ready for review. It was my top school but I guess I'll just have to reapply next year

Hey all! I just had my interview for the BSN Second Degree. I applied for the BSN/MSN Family NP track but unfortunately am only being considered for the BSN. I was emailed about interviewing in November but just heard back this weekend for one and had my interview today so do not worry about interviews! They are still doing them. Decisions should be posted by next Friday so around February 10-12. Out of 600 applications they will only accept about 90 for the second degree BSN cohort. FNP has a crazy increased amount of applications compared to last year which jumped up from about 70 to 107 this year for FNP and they will be only selecting 25-30 for the FNP MSN. Half of those who applied to BSN/MSN FNP were given interviews for the combined BSN/MSN part and half only for the BSN. Don't worry too much about the "bottleneck" Filomena said. The Dean is just scared so doesn't want to promise you'll have a spot in FNP but it is still possible for BSN/MSN and BSN Second Degree (if accepted) students to enter the FNP part on time. Once decisions are psoted, you'll have about 6 weeks to decide to go to UPENN. Classes will start around June 12th. Sorry for all the typos...I was writing fast but hopefully that helps! Goodluck all :)

Hi MGatOSU, thank you so much for providing this information! The statistics are very helpful and I have a better idea now of how this process is going. I wish you all the best in regards to the BSN second degree decisions. I have heard that it shouldn't be too difficult to be able to apply into Upenn's MSN program from their BSN. Again, thank you for the help and I wish everyone luck! The wait is almost over! Even if the results are not what we hoped for, remember that in our own pace and timing, we will become the nurses that we wish to be one day :)

Hello! You're welcome! And yes as long as you maintain a 3.2 GPA and a good clinical grade you can easily matriculate into any one of the MSN specialities. About 90% of second degree BSN students get into the MSN of their choice with the exception of anesthesia and midwifery (because those are competitive). So the odds are definitely better!! Sorry I forgot to write that part too. Filomena was very kind and mentioned how it all worked :)

Yes, that's what I've heard as well! I was interviewed for the BSN/MSN but I can definitely see the benefits of going through the BSN second degree program. I just really hope to go back to school this year as I really miss it haha. Also the U penn program just seems so amazing and the nursing faculty are so sweet and hard-working. We shall see though since it seems to be 50% which is really scary.

Thanks so much for the information, MGatOSU!

Hey guys. Good luck to everyone!

I'm wondering if for those of us who interviewed for the BSN/MSN program it's possible that we get accepted just to the BSN part? That would be so much better than getting flat out rejected.

I ordered my fall semester transcript on Jan 18th and UPenn hasn't received it. I just called my school and they said it got mailed on the 19th along with four others. (The other four schools received it within 3-4 days.) I was so frustrated that the UPenn one hasn't arrived because this is the one program I interviewed for.. I was hoping these grades would give me a bit of a boost. Thankfully the guy I spoke to offered to send another transcript to UPenn as a "courtesy copy" since he felt bad that it never arrived. I'm worried that I still might have had a tiny chance at Penn and this whole transcript thing ruined it.

(And I didn't just procrastinate! My grades were supposed to be posted by the 9th of January but my microbio one got delayed and posted on the 18th. Pretty frustrating!)

Anyhow, I keep reading on all the threads that everyone is super anxious and impatient about decisions. For whatever reason I'm not ready haha. I guess it's the fear of not getting into nursing school this year and having to wait another year, since I know that happens to a lot of people. But I wish you all the best! :)

Hey everyone!

Long time lurker, first time caller. I'm just so anxious about decisions being released soon. I'm a little worried that they will be delayed, because the FNP interview invites were delayed and the interview schedule seems somewhat delayed as well. Good luck all! Hope we hear something soon.

Hi Rusnus, that's honestly my concern too! I really hope decisions are not pushed to next week. We haven't gotten an official email about decisions being released on February 10, so hopefully we'll get that soon.

Hey everyone! I don't have an official decision, but my applyweb portal has info for students entering in 2017. (Deposit deadline, accepted students day, etc.)

I still have nothing. :( Which track did you apply for?

Try looking under checklist and scroll down to "Decision Letter Supplements." There was a PDF with information. I applied to the BSN FNP track. It didn't say anything about being accepted to just BSN or both BSN/MSN though.

Since there's nothing official yet, I think they are just in the process of uploading things!
