I need to hear some stories or experiances from those of you outhere that moved to another state Just to attend nursing school. Did you regret it, miss your family? Or was it worth it in the end? Please let me know... As I'm considering a move from CA to NM just for nursing school and want to know... Is it worth it?

well, i didn't move to another state but i do have a 2 hour commute to school, so i've been wanting to move to the town i go to school in. I have made a List of pros and cons that might help you or maybe it wont but it's all i got!

Pros- it'll make nursing school easier, i'll get more sleep, that's 4 hours of my life hat i could be studying but instead i'm driving, it'd be easier to join study groups(it's to much to drive up there now)

cons- i'd be moving away from my support system, i dont want to quit my job,my kids have school, my husband doesnt want to move

I guess i'm staying put for now

Good Luck!

I moved to another state to attend grad school, and returned home after the two years. It was definitely worth it. I was already an independent adult, living apart from my family, so that was not a consideration. My SO at the time moved with me (and our dog came, too!)

I want to move to another state (but haven't done it yet). However, I moved to another country right out of college. I couldn't visit, and yes, I missed my family - especially for holidays - but I wouldn't have traded that experience for anything. Of course, when I did this, I didn't have any real family obligations (husband, children, etc.), so that made it a lot easier.

Moving far away is the absolute best way to guarantee learning independence. I had no one to rely on but myself. I met great people and became a stronger person.

Thanks everyone for the words of thought and encouragement. I'm already an independent adult, with no husband or kids. I'm only concerned about my mother who was diagnosed two years ago with cancer. I feel guilty leaving her to move to another state. However I'm not working, and need to start school before my college funding (MGIB) expieres.

I plan on moving to another state to attend nursing school. I may be leaving sooner to finish pre reqs because of the bad home sitaution I am in. I am currently single, with no children or husband, I have no one but me. I can't stand my family so I am not too worried about missing them, although finances are a concern

What state you moving to and from ms. Nurse assistant?

I plan on moving out of state as well. I am from IL and planning to move to CA. I plan on going to nursing school there. I dont know where to start either so im glad you started this thread. I told my family already and they approve of me leaving. I dont have any kids and/or husband but I do have a bf for 5 years now. I am a little hesitant to leave him but I dont think that is a good enough reason to stay. Im actually pretty excited where my life will take me. So I think its a great idea but i think u should def. tell your mom and really think twice about it since your mom is sick right now.

I'm an independent adult student and although I haven't moved out of state to attend nursing school I've definitely looked into it. The only thing that concerned me was the out of state tuition. I don't have a husband, a boyfriend or any children. My family is here but I hardly get to see them as is so it wouldn't be any different. I did move 2 hours from my hometown which is where the majority of my family is and honestlly its one of the best decisions I've made. I've accomplished so much more from the move. So if finances don't concern you, then I say go for it. With it being so hard to get into nursing school, sometimes you have to do what you have to do. You can always talk to your family on the phone, or see them like during the weekend. I find it hard to believe you don't have a life while in nursing school. I know plenty of people who were still able to go out to clubs on the weekend or even on out of state trips while in nursing school and still graduate.

Regardless of what you decide to do, good luck...

One suggestion though...make sure you're accepted before you decide to move.

If I were single, I'd definitely consider moving. I did my first undergrad degree about 4 hours from where I grew up. I'm married now and both of our families are within an hour drive, so there's no way I'd move. I'm far too close to my family to consider it. But, I'm lucky, there are 4 good nursing schools within an hour's drive.

I too, am looking at moving out of state to go to nursing school (from IL to WA state). I need to get a job first, move and then start up....it's a process, but exciting. Good luck!

I'm moving from GA to NY. I looked into several nursing schools here but the wait lists are way too long and some of my pre-reqs will not transfer over due to how old they are. I was lucky to find a school that accepted all my credits (even those that are 10 years old) and even gave me credits for two nursing courses when I was in nursing school several years ago but had to drop out.

So I essentially be starting as a senior (ASN program), have two nursing classes left to take and I graduate in 9 months! People may say I'm crazy but I'm married with two children and pregnant with my third. My husband totally supports me and will be handling the responsibilities of the other two children once I'm gone.

My mother in law lives in NY so she will help me with the baby. The school is totally aware of my situation and have been really gracious to me. I just couldn't let this once in a lifetime opportunity pass me by.

In life you have to make sacrifices and this is one of them for me. In the end, it will be worth it.:loveya:
