U of A MEPN 2022

Published

Hello everyone. I am applying to the U of A MEPN program this fall for a May 2022 start. I'm super nervous and excited. Anyone else? I have not taken the HESI yet but will be doing so toward the end of Nov. Any advice?

We might find out that quickly! Eeek! I think I must be more nervous than I realized because just thinking about it right now is making my stomach hurt ?  OMG, you guys

I'm right there with you! While I'm nervous about being admitted, I'm also hoping I get the Tucson location if I do. ?

Hi future MEPNers! I am a current student and can maybe answer questions if you have any! I know interviews are so scary - I don't know if you had a writing question, but the time went off for me during the written one, and I was halfway through a sentence which was so embarrassing. But I still got in! (And actually it was my 2nd time applying - I didn't get in the first year I tried - I was waitlisted to Tucson and eventually got in to Phx but couldn't take that, but persistence pays off too!)

Hi! I was wondering what the curriculum has been like with COVID. Are they doing any online courses/hybrid work? How are clinicals?

Yeah! Summer was online (zoom lectures) except for our lab days, but then things changed, and we have been in class most of the time for lectures. Sometimes we're on Zoom for lectures though still (especially this past month...lots of people/teachers got sick). Unfortunately, lectures are no longer recorded, which is annoying and makes no sense to me.

However, a lot of our class work is online. So while there are lectures in person/video, there's still content we learn on our own, and entire classes that are online.

Clinicals are good! We are lucky this cohort to be pretty much back to regular clinicals like previous cohorts before COVID.

If it makes you feel better, I'm hoping for Phoenix. The idea of having to pick up and move to Tucson in such a short time frame is not appealing...

Thank you for this!☺️What does your week look like in terms of classes/clinicals you have to attend? Do you feel there is enough time for oneself outside of all that plus studying/homework? Since the program is accelerated, I'm curious to know what to expect time-wise.

haha, you're just like me - I wanted these details too.

Hmm...there's not a ton of time for oneself, but there is some. It depends on the week in terms of how much self time I have. There does come a point though where you have to decide (and luckily, I had some experience in this from undergrad) if your mental health is more important than getting a particular grade on something (spoiler- your mental health is more important). So you figure out how to balance your time.

Clinicals are like 2x a week (or less depending on the rotation). Plus exams like every other week. Papers happen too. The profs try to spread things out though between the classes!

Hey,

What type of paper do you have to write and how long do they have to be? Do each class require you to write a paper?

It depends on the paper... Yeah basically every class has a paper. They're usually around 5 pgs double spaced.

Do we get to do any research projects, or is it all more just to show what we know?

Do you get to choose your topic or do your professor choose it for you? Or do you have a list of chosen topics you have to choose from?

Both. Sometimes it's that you have to pick a research topic you want to write about. Sometimes you have to pick from a few they give us, and you have to write about whatever they want. Lots of research because it's a masters program.
