Txspadequeen's CPNE Info Thread...

Published

the time has come for me to create my very own cpne thread because if i don't i will be creating hundreds of threads and there is just no need for that. not only that i don't think lunah , sue or any other ec student or grad want a new stalker:msk:. so i am going to be posting my questions here and encourage others to chime in and ask questions as well ...that way we can all get through this nasty thing.

first off, i know y'all looked at the carjack ad threw up just wondering where to start. i actually took mine apart and i am working with the critical elements first. i will be ordering the flash cards and getting rob's cd but next week.

did anyone find that these careplans are so much different than what they where taught in school. i remember when i went to my workshop and lynn was going over these careplans ..i was like what??? is texas nursing really that different? :sfxpld:

as i move through this thing i would appreciate any help i can get...feel free to post..... i feel like a walking ticking time bomb and i dont even have a date yet.....

so i will be posting questions on here pretty regualrly now...since i am trying to get myself together..... lord have mercy on my self.....

many thanks ...this stuff even though i do it every day is so much to intake and keep organized....i feel like i am going nuts trying to get my mnemonics together. i am tying down at least one kid a day and working them over but still..its a lot .

that is all true. the reason those aren't assigned together (respiratory management and respiratory assessment) is that the management entirely includes assessment. the aha recommends 20-30 mmhg above baseline systolic. just aim for 20 and give yourself that extra 10 mmhg for leeway. :)

Sounds like me. My daughters LOVE being little patients, so I don't have to tie any kids down. :) I pretend the 2-year-old is a baby even with no fontanel left, but she's the closest I have. I still can't wrap my mind around too many mnemonics, but I remember the key words. Whatever works, I guess! You'll kick it in the butt, I'm sure.

did anyone take the online skills, documentation, or care planning courses via ec... i was thinking about enrolling for all three in feb since lynn moved her houston workshop from feb to march and my cpne is feb 27....lucky me right...

question where do you put the used gloves. when gloves go in the trash at my job the liner must come out and put into the main trash or soiled utility?

do you use gloves for the whole 20 min check (tubes adjusting fluid rate ) or just for assessing the iv site?

i took the careplanning and documentation workshops and found then helpful.i struggled with careplans up until the cpne. the scenarios did not give me enough information to feel confident in writing them. i read davids study guide and with the help of a close friend, i finally pulled it together.i liked the online conferences because they gave me feedback on things i had never thought about. it you have the money, i say go for it. they take time and alot of typing to complete. keep up with your dates because i started late on both conferences and spent alot of late nights playing catch up.

i threw my gloves in the trash and even found some in my pocket when i came out of the room. make sure you ask when they give you a tour of the unit on friday night.

20 minute checks. i put on gloves right before i assessed the iv site, pinched the skin turgor and took them off right before i checked the tubing.

ok with the neuro assessment ...if the patient is alert and talking are we still to do the noxious nail bed pressure. i see on many of my notes that it is reserved for non responsive patients. on the ec cpne dvd is shows the girl doing it when the man is alert and oriented.... anyone

i think i will just do it anyway...then i will probably get failed for emotional jeopardy ...lol

Study guide is the way to go...that video has a lot of omissions and wrong things in it, which you knew already. If they are alert and oriented, conversing with you, don't hurt them! :D

Okay, I have a question. There is talk on the EPN boards about chest percussion on a child using a 2 x 2 and a medicine cup. How the heck does that work? I had it done to me every day when I was a child at home, and my mom just winged me over her lap with my head tilted down, butt up, and her hand cupped. What's the stuff with the med cup and 2 x 2? Can't I just cup my hand properly?

yeah your right...i don't consider this kind of nail pressure noxious stimuli anyway...sternum rub yeah..anyway i am going strictly from the study guide....

i vaguely remember something about this in nursing school. however, i think the hand cup method was much more effective. i must have missed this on the epn... are you doing the cpne chat tomorrow?

When's the CPNE chat tomorrow?

The medicine cup thing was mentioned in a couple of different threads these past couple of days. One of them was a Q&A session with an EC big dog, straight from the horse's mouth.
