twu spring 2012 applicants!

Published

Hey guys! I wanted to start a forum for us twu spring 2012 hopefuls!

About me

I have a 3.2, yikes! :sofahider, and after this summer it should come up to a 3.6 or 7 and I am studying my butt off for the teas and will only have 3 more classes after that to take. I have gotten into the university as the first step, but I am so worried about getting into the nursing program, fingers crossed :uhoh3:

So I talked to one of my friends who is about to finish at TWU and asked her what her schedule was like and clinicals and this is what she said..

My first semester i had class all day monday, tuesday night, clinicals tuesday morning, wednesday morning lab, thursday night class. Plus tons of time studying and preparing for clinicals and labs. My first semester I was just assigned where to go, but i think that people are now able to pref hospitals.I had a wonderful instructor and a great experience. Every semester is totally different and depending on what your clinical schedule looks like can vary. Some people had saturday clinicals, i have never had saturday, but this semester i follow a preceptor and I do have to go on weekends.

Hope it helps and gives a little bit of insight!

Hey Learlady.. there already is a facebook page set up. Its under Dallas Spring 2012. Also, Angela... I talked to Heather from the Denton Campus about it and she had to ask someone else. Houston maybe different than Dallas.

Awesome! I found it and sent my request to join! Thirteen members already! Yeah Rah!!

@L8Blumer... No I haven't, and it is driving me absolutely insane. I feel so silly with this first world problem! lol I have never had to make a decision this big, and now my family and friends are getting involved and chanting UT in my ear! haha I am really irritated at the moment about the responses I'm getting in regards to my dilemma though, because those that were accepted to UT are saying "well just go to TWU" like they don't even want me as a classmate. A little confused, and it definitely doesn't give UT any points for me. I am about at 90% decided right now, but anything could pull me back the other way if I hear something that just really sells UT.

I know you haven't heard anything from UT yet, but I can't remember if you're in at TWU and in the group. I can't keep up with the faces/usernames. haha so are you?

Anyway, I'm way too indecisive about everything! None of you ever want to go out to eat with me, promise. lol

Specializes in School Nursing.

I think we've already formed a nice group, which is a large chunk of the incoming class-- if you're feeling a warmer welcome from one group over the other, you should go with the nicer folks, since you're going to be spending the next 2 year with us.. I mean them.. hehe ;) Just fax in that acceptance girlie-- you're a TWU all the way!

@Taylor, I was accepted to TWU and I'm sooo over the top thrilled with everything I have heard about the school ,and program! I know I shouldn't fret about wheather UTHSC accepts me or not because I already have an amazing place/ home (lol) that has accepted me. I guess I just wanted more of an option and UTHSC program,is shorter (still not sure that is a benefit, but would ne done and practicing sooner) and that also have a great reputation (flip side of that is they also have the "sink or swim rep" too as you have you and many others have heard/mentioned). Sheesh, maybe I should just be happy that I don't have to make the grueling decision....oh, and I am also very indecisive as well-dinner sounds great...but where to go...!?...lol!! You really have been so comforting, informative and needless to say FUNNY through this whole process...thanks to you and a number of other cast and characters on this forum for keeping the spirits up! I CAN NOT wait to meet ya'll!!!

@taylor: I'm sorry to hear you're still confused and going back and forth about it D: It sucks being torn in two directions. I was there all last week, and yesterday I finally decided with UT.

For me, it came down to this--- regardless of summers off or potentially lower GPAs or potentially rude classmates: Which school would I regret not going to the most? And I realized that (this is for me, personally, and I'm not talking TWU down or anything because I love that school as well) if I went to TWU, I'd always have a voice in the back of my mind going, what if I had gone to UT instead and I hate those lol so, yes. I'm officially on the UT boat. (so hey, if anyone's still waiting to hear from TWU Houston, a spot's just opened up!)

Ummm I don't know if that helps you at all. I know you were thinking about getting some experience during the summers off and plus you've got a wedding to plan, so if that's what's most important, TWU definitely looks like a better option for you. (which makes me kind of sad because you seem like a really awesome person and I'd love to have you as a classmate, but you gotta do what's best for you and not me lol :D)

Sooo yes. I don't know if I helped at all :\ This really is a tough decision.

I know I wasn't on this forum for very long, but everyone here seems to be really intelligent and kind, and even if we aren't classmates in the same school, we'll soon be working in the same hospitals and I couldn't ask for better colleagues ;)

@darcy, is UTH traditional program straight through or only spring and fall semesters?

Does anyone know how many letters went out Monday and how many go out in the second round? When does the second round go out? Based on everyones stats, I am still in the running. Crossing my fingers!

@ladydeeb: They work straight through the summer. Definitely a downer :\

Oh ok so if the program begins in the spring it'll end in the spring?
