Hey guys! I wanted to start a forum for us twu spring 2012 hopefuls!
About me
I have a 3.2, yikes! :sofahider, and after this summer it should come up to a 3.6 or 7 and I am studying my butt off for the teas and will only have 3 more classes after that to take. I have gotten into the university as the first step, but I am so worried about getting into the nursing program, fingers crossed
I live in the Dallas area and the cheapest twinrix I found was about $115 per shot plus a $75 "consultation" lol. Since there's 3 shots it was going to be pretty expensive!
Titers really saved me. I grew up in Arkansas and I knew it would be a hassle getting shot records. I wish I had known about the 4 weeks series sooner. Unfortunately.. I have already done the 2 of the 3 and it was not cheap but thankfully I saved a lot more money by doing the titers.
Ok everyone. Don't freak out about vaccinations. Go to your county health department ( I went to Dallas County Health Department) and bring them your student ID (any college ID will work, doesn't have to be TWU) if your a student they will do each vaccine for 10 per shot. Doesn't matter what it is. Instead of searching for shot records or paying for a titer I went there and got every vaccine listed in the packet and I paid $90 for everything!! So cheap!! You can thank me later : )
@cabryan
YEAH I KNOW!! December is so far away, but you know what I dont mind, if it gets me in :) What is your GPA and TEAS score?
My test score was 87, but apparently that is not helpful. My GPA is what got me. I have an AA with a 3.5 GPA, but my sciences that they actually base the GPA on was a 3.2. My Stats grade messed me up bad. I only got 1 A on first attempt out of the 4. So I am thinking that is what killed me. The TEAS score doesn't seem to matter much since most everyone who has been accepted has had 60's & 70's. Oh well. I should have retaken my classes, but I have to pay for everything myself and I just couldn't afford to. Still not sure what I am going to do now. I have a family and can't keep being a student and a part time worker forever if it isn't going to get me anywhere. Sigh.

Yeah I emailed my adviser the other day, she just answered me. She said there were A LOT of people applying to the Dallas campus, and unfortunately a lot of people were not going to get in. She said that there were still some people, that will get in depending on who denies their acceptance by the 7th, I don't think I'm gonna be one of those lucky ones. You might though!!:)
I don't have a family, but I still have to pay my bills and such, and not having a career sucks! I currently have my Associates in Science, but there isn't much anyone can do with that. So what I'm thinking of doing is doing the CNA course in the meanwhile and work. Its about $500 in the metroplex, and it will give you experience, and who knows maybe the hospital you work at might even pay for your RN degree. Thats just my thought. You should look into it as well, if you already don't have a good job at this time. They have a variety of courses, they have a weekend class which i think is like 4 or 5 weeks, or a Mon-Fri class which is 2 weeks.
Hey all! Got my acceptance letter on Monday! Congratulations to everyone who is accepted. For those still waiting, hope you all find out soon. Here are stats for future readers.
My Stats:
Prereq GPA: 3.58 (no bump)
TEAS: 90.7
3 A's on first attempt (I think)
Previous B.A.
Still waiting to hear from UTHSC-Houston! Good luck to everyone.

Yeah I know there were a lot of applicants, they ahve a great program, reasonable costs too. I actually was working as basically a CNA for an assisted living place for the past 2 years while I was going to school full time. I may look into a CNA license, but might look into a PCT. I am sure we will both figure out something, I am just a little down right now. I am considering applying to Collins ADN program and trying for my bachelors later. I am working on a new plan, just hate being disappointed, but hey that is life. Good luck in your quest. :-)

Yeah I heard Collins ADN program is really great, and highly competitive! Maybe you will hear something next week from TWU :) We will figure something out! Good luck on your future plans as well! :)
Hey, all, First-time poster here, but I found this site while looking for a resource for TWU nursing students. I received my acceptance to the Dallas campus on Monday, and I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone! For those who asked about grades and test scores, I received a 90 on the TEAS. This is my second degree (B.S. in psychology was my first), with 3.8 on my overall GPA and 4.0 on the prereqs (all As on first attempt). I also initially started out as a pre-med, so I took other science courses not required for nursing (not sure if that had any impact on the decision, though they show up on the transcripts) For those who didn't receive anything yet, give it time. After next week, that second round of e-mails will go out. :)
Congrats to the incoming J1s!
Dallas traditional Group (can't speak for Houston though likely the same):
Vaccinations: Don't freak out. You need your first 2 Hep Bs finished (1 dose, then 2nd dose 30 days later) by the time you start clinicals (usually week 6). Starting in January, TWU will require a flu shot & varicella titer. They also started requiring a Hep B Titer >30 days AFTER all 3 hep B shots.
The County clinic has immunizations for a very affordable price. TWU also has discounted pricing for students. If you work in a hospital, they may offer it free/reduced to employees.
Once you have immunization documentation, fax it to the Student Health Services (better to fax most of it at once). It will take days to post so don't fret. It's NOT official until it's posted on MediCat. Once everything's posted, you'll print your immuz history & turn into the College of Nursing.

It's incredibly overwhelming at first. Be flexible (schedules may change) & write all the random "to-dos" on one paper.
