TWU Houston Fall 2009

Published

I could not for the life of me find a thread for people who were going to be going to Houston in the fall, so here we go.

I was going out for the fast track 2009 in Dallas, got denied and put back in the fall applicant pool, then BAM:D, got hit with the shocker last night when I got home from work that I had been accepted to the regular BSN program in Houston.

I'm really excited to start a new chapter and I thought this would be a good way to meet other members of the class before we get there. So shout out where you're from and your background so we can all get to know each other before August!

(P.S.- I've also been accepted to the community college in my hometown, which is closer, cheaper, and probably going to be easier, but I think it would be borderline offensive to turn down such an awesome offer, let me know what you think)

my outside loan was through wells fargo. they have one just for medical related careers such as nursing. also, just fyi the parking in the garage at TWU is $80/month. i live like 10 mins from school and just drive. there are car break-ins everywhere you go. i live in a really nice community and it happens here too. it's everywhere so all you need to do is be sure not to leave something valuable in your car. you would be amazed at how many people leave their laptops, digital cameras, ipods, etc. in plain sight and those are the ones who get broken into. just be smart about your stuff.

8o a month?!?! wow thats crazyy! i thought it would be like 100 for a whole semester..

yea i read on wellsfargo about their loan that pays for everythin even living. how early did you apply for that loan?

which community do you live in as far as apt? or its with parents

eamaya- I honestly didn't think I was getting into TWU so I didn't fill out the scholarship before march 1, since i didn't know til late march that I got in. I hope to be able to reapply for it in the Spring if that's possible.

That Wells Fargo thing sounds awesome, do I just call a branch and make an appt or what do I do for that?

for parking in the med center $80/month is a great deal. when i work at the hospitals in the med center i just park at school and then walk to the hospitals. its a lot cheaper than $10-12/day anywhere else in the med center.

for the loan i just went online and applied. it was really quick and easy.

i live in camden plaza but it's a bit on the pricy side. i have a cousin who lives in the museum district right outside the med center and his rent is like 2K for a 2 bedroom + loft so 3 of them split it. it's really nice but i'm not sure your price range. if you call the houston campus and talk to student life they have a list of apartments around there along with the prices that might help everyone looking for a place. you can go online and look at the crime rate for the areas too. if there is a certain apt. complex you are interested let me know and i can find out about the crime at that location for you.

if you go into a branch or call they will tell you to go online and fill out the application. don't waste your time going in just go online and do it now.

the TWU garage is awesome and completely safe. i have never had a problem there. there aren't any apt. within walking distance but there are some within walking distance to the light rail. also, some of the complexes around there have a shuttle that will drop you off in the med center and then you can go from there. don't completely rely on them though b/c if the staff is busy/sick/etc. it is not one of their priorities and you will have to find your own way to school. i have a friend that happened to last week but overall she is happy with it.

as far as the scrubs.. do we have to buy them from TWU? or could you find it cheaper? and the advisement day, what other supplies do they make you purchase...

oh i think everyone wants to know this question...

can we bring anyone to advisement day?

yes, you can bring someone to orientation. no, you don't have to buy the scrubs from TWU but you do have to buy the patches and put them on your sleeve. you will need a lab coat, stethoscope, name badge and that's pretty much it. there is a $20 clip board that you don't need. just go to office depot and buy one for $2.

attendance depends on the teachers. each class is different. some will have a sign in sheet, some will have random quizzes, etc.
