TWU Fall 2018 Nursing Applicants

Published

Hey guys, I know it's a little early, however, I decided to start this thread as the application process will be soon upon us.

How are you studying for the TEAS?

Wishing all the best! :)

I was told by the advisor that the Fall cycles is more competive. Mainly because of the Night and weekend program. Those who are not chosen for nights/weekend are automatically reviewed for the traditional program. It really comes down to points and the number of spots they have.

oh ok. I wonder what's the "lowest" amount of points they've accepted for the night/weekend program, well, I guess for the last cycle

Yes, I have the TWU preference bump.

A 94.7??? Dang! That's really good! Any tips on the TEAS? I'm stressing out about it and I've been studying every day for 2 weeks so far. I take it on the 26th

Thank you! I studies for about 2 months prior to taking it. Best advice I can give is pretty cliche: get a good nights rest, have a good breakfast and make sure you're hydrated, and use all the time allowed to double check your work

That's actually listed in here somewhere. There is a post on one of these pages with the stats from one of the previous application cycles.

yea, but it doesn't give stats for the evening/weekend program, just traditional for dallas and Houston campus

You covered most of it! Other than tuition, the books were the priciest. I spent almost $400 on books for just one class. You'll also need a stethoscope, that was about $100, patches/name tags which you'll order during orientation, and for the immunizations, just make sure you have all of the required ones. I had to get some titers done and it added up to a little under $150. FA and Scholarships covered most of it for me, but just giving a heads up for anyone that might be paying strictly out of pocket because it adds up and unexpected expenses can really stress someone out.

@AngNicole I hope you don't mind me asking but how much do you anticipate spending in total? I've been saving up as much as I can so I don't have to take out a huge loan but would you mind giving a ballpark estimate?

When do we find out when we got into the program?

It depends on whether you would have taken patho prior to starting classes, but I'd say tuition should be about $4,500-$5,200 and the extra expenses (including books, scrubs/patches, stethoscope, immunization/titers, background check/drug test/BON check, etc..) should be around $1,200 (just to be safe). So i'd say somewhere around 6k? Also, if you can find the time to take patho early, DO IT! Our instructor just went over how beneficial it is to have it out of the way. If you can avoid taking 16 hours your first semester (and instead only have to take 12 hours) that would be HUGE.

Oh, and if you do decide to take patho early, I'm like 90% sure that it has to be taken at TWU for it to count. I remember hearing that somewhere, but i'd double check just in case any of you sign up and take it at a different school, but then have an advisor say sorry we won't accept it, you'll have to retake it. :dead:

I applied to the evening/weekend program last year and in an email from one of the advisers they told me the average GPA accepted was 3.74 and the average TEAS accepted was 87.9 for that cycle. If you don't have either of the bumps they suggested scoring above average on both GPA and TEAS to really be competitive

Has anyone taken the TEAS yet? If you have, how similar is the test to the practice tests that you can buy from ATI?

thanks for that info! Was this for the night/wkend program in particular or for that whole cycle for Fall 2017? I know in Fall 2015 they had a break down for the fall cycle for Dallas, Houston, and Night/wkend program

As far a I know that was specifically for the evening/weekend program for Fall 2017 bc thats what I applied for and what I asked about in my email to her. She also told me that of the 29 applicants who were selected for evening/weekend program that cycle, only 4 of them had no bumps so it is possible to get in without the bumps, but all four had either above average GPA (3.74) or TEAS (87.9) or both. But each cycle is different and some are more competitive than others so i guess it all depends on the applicant pool
