TWU Dallas Spring 2011

Published

Hey guys! I recently got my acceptance letter for TWU Nursing school in Dallas! :) I decided to make an account to see if who else has been admitted to the Dallas campus. im soooo nervous!

I think they're out of some of the books and waiting on more. I know for sure they're out of the Evolve Practice test 3e (the sheet says 2e but there's a newer version out now).

Some of the titles match, but ISBNs are different between the package and info sheets. Also, some of the title and ISBNs are mismatched on the sheets. As best I can tell when compared with a friend who already got her Majors package:

Assessment sheet:

There are no books with ISBN 9781416047759. Instead, she received 9780323068673.

Competencies sheet:

ISBN 9781608311491 is for a video. We need the ONLINE one, which in the Majors package is ISBN 9781608311453.

ISBN for med-surg is wrong. The given ISBN 9780781785891 is for a single volume only. The majors package includes a two volume book which is 9780781785907.

Calculate with Confidence is also incorrect as the given ISBN 0323056385 is for a book, we need the ONLINE code which is 9780323056380.

If you want the same drug book that is in the package (the sheet says you can have any one you want) the ISBN is 9780323069182.

Everything for pharm seems to be correct.

sysjl,

You should call them about your books... I ordered mine last Monday (Dec 20) and picked them up this past Monday after they called me. There are a LOT of boxes there in the back of the store. If you included the Patho book/study guide in your order, it may not be ready -- they didn't have many of them there on Monday.

Hey guys, I'm currently applying to the Fall 2011 here at the Dallas campus. I was wondering if any of you would mind sharing your scores on the TEAS V and GPA from application to get into the program. I have a 3.3 GPA (transfer student so no bump) and got a 90.7% on my TEAS. There is currently no point system posted as to how they are using the teast and GPA for admissions. I am just curious to see if i have any chance to get in. My TEAS V score put me in the 99th percentile nation wide and 98th for the program... whatever that really boils down to. Any light shed would be a help. I am applying to other programs, but this is the only BSN program I'm going for. I was also told that being male would improve my chances slightly, but I'm doubtful of that too.

Hi guys..just a few things that i thought yall should know..

-TNSA offers cpr classes before the semester starts..i recommend taking it with them because the class is pretty laid back and the exam at the end is taken as a class

-the total cost for JUST the books your J1 semester is $1200. Again this is just for books, you can buy your books used but you won't be saving that much. I realized this a few weeks ago, but all the books are in the library, there are several copies of each book. We barely used any of the books, they were seriously a waste of money. The only book you really need is the Assessment book, and Taylors clincal lab book. I don't know anyone that looked at their other books more than 5 times.

-You have to wear a white scrub top and maroon scrub pants for lab and clinicals, they can be any style and any shade of dark maroon is fine

-the scrubs that tnsa sells are huge

-all the equipment that you will need will be given to you at school so don't go buying bp cuffs and penlights

-try to take patho before you start nursing school, the class is really really time consuming

-take patho with Macarther, she gives at least a 10 point curve each test

-don't ever be late to class, you will regret it

sorry guys thats all i can think of right now..let me know if you have any questions.

Hey! Thanks for this info!! Loved it. Very useful. You are a rock star. I took Patho with MM this past sem. for Patho. She's has these aweeeesome intense moments with people. She made me laugh which is more than I can say for a lot of profs I've had. I BARELY got a B and never cracked the book. In hindsight, I would have read the chapters, seeing as it was the only class i took that sem. :(

I've noticed the profs are a bit control-freaky. e.g. they say "wear white shoes" when the uniform codes say "white OR black". just little things here and there. Reminds me of the military. anyhow, the uniform code also says maroon or white tops. Are the profs going to "override" and pressure us into white scrub tops only?

I've already read Pharm chapters 1 and 2. I actually enjoy reading the stuff so far.

Anyway, just venting. Thanks again for the info.

I also had a 90.7% on the TEAS V but my GPA was 3.4 before the bump. I also had a B.S. in Biochemistry. I was in the first round selected with those stats. Hope that helps.

Palmsofvictory I was thinking the same thing about the professors lol I've also been reading my pharm book and it is pretty interesting! Hopefully my mind will continue to think that way once the semester begins!

It seems like you have a great chance, especially since your Teas score is pretty much AWESOME! :) We've posted all of our grades & test scores in the forum titled "TWU Applicants Spring 2011"

I would recommend that you actually go in and speak to the advisor and make sure they have all of your grades for your pre reqs. Especially if your a transfer student, verify your GPA they have on file and make sure it adds up to what you calculated your GPA out to be.

hello, congrats to all of you all !!!!

i am here to tell you i will be joining you for your concepts and pharm classes. i was accepted in the nursing program of fall 2010, however, i had to drop pharm and concepts because the fact that i was working full time and attending school full-time. all i would truley advice to all of you all , from exprience is not to do this... do part-time student or employee... many student you can also be part-time nursing student... however this semester i will be joining you all. i hope to find caring students like i did this past semester. we are a team... having the same steps, hopes, and dreams, it is no longer a competition!

a few words of advice would be:

  • study abreviations and medical termonology, (you will be given a ws to be tested later on) reading and thinking like a nurse, will reduce anxiety... that is the one thing to remember.
  • study how test taking stratagies for nursing test questions... especially for pharm.... your $$$ costly package contains helpful questions similar to the quizes and test questions for pharm.
  • just look over your books to be familiar what they are and for what classes.
  • nursing school is fun.:nurse: (twu staff will guide you with everything), just dont do too much in one semester because you will be burned out (like me working ft &being a ft student). focus, we will be here for each other.

feel free to ask me any quetions. what i hope to find in you all is confidence, and anti-anxiety, because sometime i have this problem... am still working on this. yes, sorry to write too much, but i am very open to help and to say what i think. lets go twu nursings students !!!!! whoooo !!!!:heartbeat
