Tutoring?

Does anyone use a tutor for nursing school? If so (and if you don't mind answering) what do you pay him/her?

I am a recent graduate, and am interested in tutoring current students at the school I graduated from, but have no idea what the going rate is. I feel like $20/hour might be a reasonable rate, but then if I tutor a group, does the rate go up, or should I charge each individual separately?

My school hires nursing students to tutor other students. I tutored last semester and this was the pay scale: ADN $10hr, BSN $20, MSN $25. It is a state college and the tutoring was paid for by the state not the students. I do not know if I would pay $20 or at all to be tutored to be quite honest, not a lot of extra money. Plus professors are always willing to help struggling students and there were the free tutors the college provided. This might be out of the norm though. I think whatever rate you decide on, you should charge what you think your time is worth and have it be the same rate regardless if you are tutoring 1 or 3 people - the more people at once the less individualized your tutoring would be.

Maybe the school could help you out? maybe they have a tutoring program like my school?

I'm a BSN who graduated last December. I got started when the school I attended contacted me, and I was immediately hooked. I charge $30 an hour for one to three students at a time. They can split the fee anyway they want. Most of the time, the request is for a group, and I prefer that. It's more fun for the students -- when one starts succeeding, the others start cheering, and they're not so discouraged. It also helps them see how they can better study together outside the tutoring session. I love it because I have to review information that I don't necessarily use in my current job. I also get a huge kick out of hearing from them when they go from failing to passing.
