Trying for Gwinnett Tech Fall 2013

U.S.A. Georgia

Published

So I am trying to get into gwinnett techs fall of 2013 class and i just wanted to start a forum for us to support each other and for info. I still have a couple pre reqs to take but im hoping to do well! Good luck everyone

I'm not sure rednurse. I wonder if tablets will work too (weighs less and more compact). Also does anyone know what color our scrubs are and when we should get them? I need to pace myself financially and tackle as much as I can this summer...

I heard that they were thinking about blue uniforms this year instead of white, that would be great.

I hope they go blue with the uniforms this year. If anybody finds out about it for sure, please let me know. :)

Hi lpatel320, I work for Gwinnett Medical Center in Duluth where a few of the GTC nursing students come to do clinicals. When I was up at Joan Glancy Rehab one of the students was dressed in white scrubs. But a couple of weeks later when I was at the hospital on the 4th floor, two of the GTC students had on a very lovely shade of blue scrubs (kinda almost grayish-blue if you know what I mean). But I am not sure which ones are official! I guess I will ask the next time I see them!

Lol trust me I only knew it was you because of that PA comment. You see how easily people can incriminate themselves LOL you can use my books. Ill give Dollar Billz ( that's what he calls himself) and he will pass them off to you. If for some reason they use a new edition, then you can decide if you want to use the books or not. New editions usually only have slight variations though. Foundations of Nursing and Pharmacology are the first classes you will take. So just message me and let me know when you would like the books.

That sounds great, you are too kind(and funny, lol). I'll let you know.

I have gone back several pages and removed names and an email address. Please refrain from doing this again. Thanks for your cooperation.

Hey Divalostity, I also work at Gwinnett Medical Center but in Lawrenceville. All the students I have seen so far are in white but hopefully we will get blue. Either way, I am just happy to be accepted. What department do you work in. I have only been at GMC for a couple of months, so would love to pick your brain on some things. If you don't mind, of course. Feel free to email me at [email protected].

Hey guys. I'm going to Athens Tech in the fall and came across this website (Meridys) that the school orders uniforms/supplies from. After seeing your question, I searched for gwinnett tech and found their site for uniforms also. Looks like white on white... Worth looking at :)

Hey! I am in the Float Pool. I kinda like it, and of course like you I have been there a couple of months. Its funny how all of this has worked out! I will be at Lawrenceville on Wednesday night to pick up an extra shift. I should be on 6 South but its possible I might go to 5 North. However, I usually mostly work 4th floor here in Duluth or be placed on sitter duty for the 1013 patients. I like it so far. I plan to take advantage of tuition reimbursement and the nurse residency program. My email is [email protected] Congrats on work and school for you! This is all too exciting! Oh and I am hoping for the blue scrubs too!

Thanks for posting this! I've been wondering where they order their scrubs and such. Time to start comparing prices for the other stuff. :bag:

Divalosity12, by any chance, are there any regular, part-time jobs offered at the hospital for prenursing students? I've been wanting to find a job that can work out best with my school schedule. Not sure if you or anyone can point me out in the right direction for something like this. :-)

Thanks!!

I know that sometimes hiring comes in phases, but when there is a need then management will start pulling applications. You should check with hospitals that you are interested in. Each one always has different requirements. For example, some places want you to have a Patient Care Tech certification whereas others (such as GMC) only requires a CNA (although you are hired as a PCT) because alot of entities train there own people as they go. The only thing that I can say as far as a school schedule is being in a department that is willing to work with you. Some places are only concerned with you working your schedule to satisfy your department needs first. But where I work, they value their nursing students and work schedules around school. I know that Gwinnett Medical could use some help but its up to them with how and when they hire. Send me your email and I will send my contact info so that you can use me as a referral. We do have a referral program so hopefully that will help get you in faster. All else fails, try long-term care facilities in the meantime, or maybe during the summer to get your feet wet. If you can, get through your first semester first to see how work will fit in for you. Most hospital positions require 12 hour shifts. I have been to school and worked 12 hours full time so I know that I can handle it. I am not sure if you have ever tackled a challenge like this. But if you want PRN status just to have extra experience and a few extra bucks...go for it! I wish you much success! My email is [email protected] if you need to reach me!

Last week I was dying, waiting for my acceptance letter (has it really only been a week? ). Now I'm dying, waiting for the info packet to arrive. If you're dying like I am, what are you doing to help maintain your sanity?

For me, it's classes. I've got one more humanities class with a quiz and an assignment, and pathophysiology with a lecture, an exam, and the final.
