Trying to get a job in adelaide

Hi,

I am a UK trained nurse. I worked in the UK for four months, then my boyfriend and I moved to New Zealand. I found it hard getting a job here because i only had four months experience, but I got one Eventually. One of the hopsitals would not employ me because I only had four months experience not a year. My boyfriend and I are looking to move to adelaide and I do not want to make the same mistakes.

Does anyone know if you have to have worked for a whole year before you can get a job in adelaide?

Also Ive tried ringing and emailing the big hospitals and they say there are no jobs at the moment but if i send my CV and fill out an application form then they will put me on a computer list! Is this normal? Because any other jobs i have worked in they advertise on the hospital web page?

Does anyone know if its hard to get a job in adelaide? Also are there no jobs because of the time of the year? Anyway I would be grateful if someone could help me!!!

Does no one reply to these??

I am not from Adelaide, but have you thought about applying for a Graduate program,. If you have less than 12 months experience than you would still be eligible. (I am curious, and they might be why u moved from the UK, than NZ, than Adelaide). If you can't get a job in the hospitals, have you thought about aged care? Or agency nursing, than once a particular knows you, you might have foot in the door, when they are hiring,

hope this helps

Hi,

We moved from Uk for my partners job and now we dont like NZ theres lots of things we dont like about it! So we are moving to adelaide. I am just going to wait and work here for a year then apply for jobs, as I am in a good job here and dont want to take a step backwards. No well i had that issue in NZ but in NZ i cant apply for a new grad program as i didnt study here. No i dont want to do aged care, and I Have done acgency work here and it was awful. SO i suppose i could apply to the casual pool at the hospital. Thanks for your help.

you could apply to some of the private hospitals new grad programs rather than the public hospitals. They are more likely to take on an overseas trained nurse. the hospital I work at in Melbourne takes on overseas nurses in its new grad program.

Try talking to the international recruiter for the hospital that you are looking into applying for, they should be able to point you in the right direction.

The first six months of the year are when staffing is least the issue, because of new grads.

Thanks for the suggestions! So do all hospitals have and international section? How do i found out?

Just look on their website for the international recruiter. I applied to a major public teaching hospital so i'm not sure.

It is hard to get into casual pool with less than a year experience. Hospitals would not employee because of the safety reason. Only possible way to get a job is to get into graduate program. You will get some information about current some GNP here and I hope it helps you. Another way is to contact all graduate coordinator and submit your resume. They will let you know if there is any vacancies.

If your interested in theatre then you'll likely get a job anywhere right now.

Are you really that short staffed Scrubby? Are you in Adelaide? I'm after a job (theatre) in that part of the world, what's the situation like? Cheers.

Really? well when i phoned up the main hospitals and looked up the website there are NO jobs! But i dont see how that can be true as ive never come upon a hospital with no vacancies! Which hospital do u work in?
