hi can anyone shed some light on how to get a job! i have a british rn license ,new york state license, acls, pals, bls (all current) and 6 years experiance in the er in the uk. i have been in the us for 15 years and have not worked as i have 4 children. i have sent out tons of resumes and have only had one reply. i had an interview but could tell that the hr person was shocked that i had not worked fro so long(she must have missed that on my resume).

i am so current its crazy as i just sat nclex and did all the certs for acls etc. i was very senior in the er when i left and had an awful lot of trauma experiance as we saw over 60,000 patients through the department each year. i tried to explain this at the interview but they didnt really seem that bothered it was all about orientation and whether they could possibly accomodate someone like me!!!!! cheeky!!!

help!

Good Luck..jobs are NOT good in New York right now.

Where in NY? NYC, or the state in general? It makes a difference. Jobs in the NYC area are hard to come by right now, but I know lots of hospitals in my area (Albany/Upstate) that would love to hire an experienced ER nurse. The hospital where I work is actually offering a sign on bonus for nurses to work nights/evenings in the ED.

CVPH in Plattsburgh is always looking for nurses.

not a lot of jobs in poughkeepsie area

Jobs are getting tighter in the Rochester area. I hear there are jobs in Buffalo, but they are even less then usual.

Until NYS finally hashes out a budget for next fiscal year, don't expect many hospitals in any part of the state to do much hiring, especially nurses.

Governor Patterson wants cuts in Medicare/Medicaid and other healthcare spending, (to be fair NYS is the most generous of all states in this matter), and tough economic times have dealt many hospitals/healthcare systems hard blows. Just in NYC alone several hospitals have closed within the past few years, two in Queens just this past year (or was it last year?). This has thrown hundreds of experienced nurses out into the ranks looking for work. All this with nursing programs state wide cranking out new batches of grads every six to twelve months.

As for finding work, think out of the box. Volunteer, perhaps take agency or temp work, anything to get a foot in the door.

Good luck!

Try Orange Regional Medical Center-- Horton or Arden Hill campus--which are in Middletown and Goshen respectively. We are always hiring and even have a new grad program (Just thought I would put that out there for any who are interested) In 2011 we are merging into one campus at a new hospital site once construction is finished and are going to be a Level 2 trauma center. I can't imagine administration not wanting someone with trauma experience. Good luck!!!!
