Trying to decide on applying & enrolling to excelsior for nursing.

I'm an lpn currently for five years now & i'm wanting to get my RN. I've heard good & bad about excelsior but i think it's what you put into it what you get out of it. Anyone currently enrolled or attended excelsior? Can you give ne insight on course i don't want to do credit by exam & this july the school is now offering financial aid for associate nursing if taking courses! A plus for me. Input is greatly needed.

I don't recommend it due to the cpne.

I have mixed feelings. I passed the CPNE the second time and my NCLEX July 2nd. I'm currently employeed as an RN and loving every second it !! However, if I had it to do all over again, I would've gone to my local community college. Pros: fits into any work schedule, not too expensive (I spent a total of about $12,000 having to take the CPNE twice) Cons: The CPNE is subjective, stressful & if you fail 3 times (people do) you can't even transfer all the classes you've tested out of. The CPNE is your 3 day "clinical" at the end of all the coursework, it's not a teaching clinical. Even if I had passed the first time I would feel the same way. I'm thankful it worked out in the end but still wouldn't recommend it unless you can't go to a school near you.

Thanks for input I've applied nearby to several local colleges but no luck and I would have to change my work schedule. Also so many requirements with placement testing and all. The CPNE I would definitely take a recommended workshop and prepare at the least 2 months before going to take it.

Sounds like you're ready to take the leap :-) . I am glad I did it & it's over with but am always hesitant to recommend it to anyone. Make sure you take the documentation & careplanning conferences though EC when you get done with the exams & are preparing for the CPNE, also I'd give yourself more like 3-4 months to prepare for the dreaded CPNE, sounds crazy I know but it takes that long to really wrap your head around it. Good Luck !!

Thanks I am already reading the stories about the cpne and trying to prepare myself now!!! Do you have a cpne journal?

Hello reebok, can you email me [email protected]

chances are everything I knew about excelsior has either changed or I've forgotten.

Im currently in the nursing program at pg in Maryland and am suppose to start my last semester and they tell me now because of one course they will not permit me to move forward. So now I'm thinking excelsior because I've been in pg since 2012 and haven't achieved anything but putting up with their crap. I feel like excelsior is the way to go. Just had a few questions about their exams and how you did it and a small amount a time and tips

the exams, when I took them, were at any testing center (pearson vue), and were multiple choice. the number varied but I think they were all 100+. I used studygroup101 and studied non stop. Study Guides

Maryland will not allow EC grads to apply for licensure by exam; they can only endorse a license from another state after 1,000 hours of RN work. The EC route for Maryland residents would be difficult at best. More information here: Excelsior College | State Board Requirements. You should examine alternatives.
