tropical vacations

Can anyone give me some tips on choosing a good place for a vacation? I have never been to Cancun, Bahamas, etc. My hubby has and liked Cancun but I would like some more suggestions. Just want somewhere WARM! with a cool beach and neat things to see. Just to relax. Any--like most we are on a budget. Any suggestions from anyone who has stayed at a great place! Thanks!!

Depending on where you live, many larger cities have charter service to Cancun. If you are on a budget, and want to go somewhere warm now, Mexico will be your best bet. I'm assuming you want to go after the holidays? Cause if you want to go around Christmas, forget the budget part. You also might want to check into a 3-4 day cruise. There have been some really good rates on some of those. If you do decide to go to Cancun, the travel agents have pictures of the hotels in the brochure. Stick with a major hotel chain and you can't go wrong.

I was a travel agent for a few years and have been to Cancun several times, it's a great vacation. You can do any kind of water sports there on the beach, or go see the ruins or go take a boat trip to Isla de Mujeres.

I would LOVE a cruise-but I get severe motion sickness. I get nauseous watching COPS--don't laugh! it's true. I also can't watch home movies-I'll toss my cookies. Airplanes-I have the Dramamine in hand before I even enter the airport. Riding in an RV does it to me too--barf city. I know I can use the scopalamine patch but I'm afraid it will make me drowsy like the Dramamine. Forgot I had taken Dramamine for a boat ride and drank some rum punch in Okoboji--big mistake--can't describe the weird-out of body feeling--but not fun!!

I was on my first cruise this summer. With the massive stabilizers on those ships I couldn't tell I was on a ship without looking out the window.

I like St. Martin and St. Thomas as far as islands to go to. If you have time to travel, some of the smaller Hawaiian islands are still not too overcrowded. Very, ver nice there.

If you're on the east coast Jamaica can be a good buy. Went to Runaway Bay this summer and it was beautiful. Very quiet and relaxing. Have fun on your vacation:)

I'm all into CLUB MED!!

They have so many destinations and are all inclusive so - depending on what you want to do you can go relax or you can go and party....

I really like the idea of the 18 and older islands (sorry to those w/kids) I went to Disneyworld a year ago and decided my next vacation is going to be more relaxing... LOL

I really like how they rate their destinations too - they have a meter that rates them as most active to least active too...

Besides the fact that you can scuba, golf and do anything else you can think of ...

I cant wait - now I just need to save some money and find some time in between classes :chuckle

This thread would appear tonight. The weather network is predicting -38 (celsius) or -36.4 (fahrenheit) with the windchill. BRRRRRR. Even my big dog was crying to sleep inside tonight. Needless to say, I plugged in my van.

And you call Club Med budget? I think not. Mega bucks. Cancun is usually the cheapest winter and summer destination provided you don't lavish yourself within a 4/5 star property. Cancun is now a commercial entreprise consisting of a zillion resorts loaded down with college students and those who dropped out of college all together for one festive party that never ends. Many South American go there as well and they have sure got the P in party down PAT. Lordy lordy. Go have fun!

OK...I don't want to hijack the thread, but has anyone ever been to the Palace Resorts in Cancun? My fiance and I are thinking about getting married at the Moon Palace.

Beautiful and expensive. If you want to splurge, go for it. You can scale down quite a bit and yet achieve the same results in my opinion. You won't be in your room much anyway if you want to explore the sights. Almost forgot, honeymoon. Scale down to cheaper accomodations and stay a few days longer. But you will not be dissapointed in the Moon Palace.

Bermuda is gorgeous. Aruba is gorgeous too.

aaaaaaaaaaaah the tropics!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm going down to Mexico on the 22 of December to visit my now retired parents. I'm all for Mexico since I've been going there all my life! The packages are awesome!

We are saving up for when we have a REAL honeymoon!!! My husband had two kids from previous marriage so we weren't able to get away after our quickie marriage here in Nevada. So we have a fund set up for a big wedding (in our beautiful Catholic church once I convert) and a great honeymoon afterwards (the kids will go to their mom's for that period of time). Anyway, our destination of choice is either Bora Bora or Fiji. My aunt has been there many times, as well as my friend who's an international flight attendant and jaunts off for her 3 day weekends there (grrr..hate her! LOL...:chuckle) and they both adore those places. VERY relaxing and amazingly beautiful. Costco does vacations for a decent price to both those destinations and we are looking forward to spending a week doing NOTHING. We were toying with the idea of Hedonism in Jamaica (I went when I was in my early 20's and single....LOVED every minute of it) but we think maybe that's a bit too wild for us old married folks! LOL

If you want to go budget, I agree with the other poster...Cancun. Pretty, relaxing, and very economical.
