Hi everyone!
I wore danskos in nursing school but I constantly rolled my ankles and tripped up and down whatever unit I was on... Tennis shoes were not allowed, so when I accepted my first big girl nursing job at a children's hospital a few months ago, I happily wore my tennis shoes to work.
I love them- I never roll my ankles. But now a few months in, I've been in too many child projectile vomiting situations to feel "safe" in shoes that can't be easily wiped off.
My unit is about 50/50 on shoes- about half do clogs and the other half tennis shoes.
I'd like to go back to clogs since they're easier to clean- but has anyone who had the same rolling ankle issue found a pair of clogs that would work safely for them?

When you look at the shoe from the back make sure the heel does not taper inward. That's what Danskos do,I can't wear them without falling off of them.Leather sneakers are a good option ,you can throw them in the washer.Get decent ones with good support and replace them every six months.Better yet,get two pairs a year, alternate them every other day.

I hear you. My feet are a mess and I wear out shoes so quickly! The only thing that is tough enough is doc martens. I have some none butch ones that I used to alternate with a pair of leather walking shoes. Attractive no, safe and puke resistant yes. Plus at a size 11 I'm happy that something fits.

I'm a Dansko girl, and also a bit of a klutz. I figure I may fall anyway, so I may as well do it in shoes I love.
There's never enough "bottom" (sole?) on my sneakers. Which type do you wear?

I live a few miles from the outlet,I love the look, wish I could wear them...I buy all my sneakers from Footsmart.com.You can search for a particular type of shoe according to your issues (arch height, pronation, etc)They always have a good selection.Nike's have worked for me for sometime now.I have custom orthotics so I can get a less expensive shoe and just put my orthotics in them....My feet are so jacked up! Flat, wide and bilateral bunions, too.I used to wear a 5 but a seven felt so good now I buy an 8 1/2 wide.....

I had the same problem until I finally ended up spending the afternoon portion of my shift getting X-rays in the ER for a potential fx. Thankfully none, but I got to become very friendly with crutches the next several days. Since then they have sat safely in the top of my closet and I have worn Alegria's. Not quite as comfortable as Dansko's but I have not fallen again since. I have tried wearing tennis shoes but by then end of my shift I just hurt everywhere. My back, knees, feet, all of it. I hope you find what works best for you!!

I have the full coverage, lower profile Alegria's and find they're much easier to run in than my Dansko's. I still wear my Dansko's on occasion, mainly when I know I will be standing for long periods versus running/walking. The disadvantage to the Alegria's is that they don't have quite as much arch support and don't do quite as much for my back and posture. They're definitely safer for running though!

Me personally I am not a fan of Danskos. I loved the designs but I do not find them comfortable to be in for a long time. I have found that the nursemates womens gelsey are very comfortable! They have the "pillowtop" insoles in them. Very comfortable.

Most of the people I know who roll their ankles are wearing Danskos/Sanitas that are at least one size too big. For some reason it got around that you should be able to put two fingers between your heel and the back of the shoe. They were even saying it at the stores that sold them. Turns out this was really bad mis-information. This may not be your situation but I thought it was worth sharing.

Dansco are a hazard! Can someone please investigate. I feel so stupid for just realizing it's the shoe not me!! I've fallen 5 times.
