I am curious.......for what degree in nursing would this be a required course? An acquaintance of mine is taking this and I believe she is going for BSN. Don't you just need college level math? I thought in Arizona you did not even need College Algebra. Am I mistaken?? Isn't the order of math.....college algrebra, calculus, then trig?
Of course, she could be taking it because she WANTS to. ........NAH!:)
Thanks!

No degree in nursing should require trig. Most BSN degrees only require college algebra and statistics. I don't think even CRNA programs require trig. or calculus.

Never heard of trig being required. (Good thing, because the nursing shortage would be much worse!)

Garde 11 advanced functions for RN degree. Grade 12 advanced math for practical nursing.(pre reqs) The advanced funtions has alot of trig in it so there may be a level of truth in the need for trig but not college trig. Not here anyways. Thank god.

First, usual math studies progression includes geometry before Algebra II.
But agree very little application opportunities for trig in nursing.
In our program, everyone regardless of background (including other degrees -- like mine in engineering) must score into Algebra II on the entrance exam to qualify.
Thanks everybody. Figured you did not NEED it. Guess she is just taking it for her own thrills or I thought maybe she was trying to look good to get into a nursing program. I guess that would be the most likely possiblility. I don't really "know" her, so I can't ask.
Janice -- Maybe she's taking it for a boost to her GPA.
If you've got a good founding in math and geometry, trig isn't bad at all.
I can see it now..."Can you start a line on Mr So and So, check the vitals on Mrs Jones and by the way.....while you're at it....could you figure out the circumference of that gurney's wheel and the area of the plaster room?" :chuckle

Wait a sec there! Those aren't legit trig questions. :)
Yes but I didn't want to intimidate you with my awesome mind boggling trig skills. :rotfl:

Oh my goodness, if Trig had been required for nursing school, I wouldn't be an RN right now!!! My high school trig teacher told me at the end of the first semester, "Renee, the best advice I have for you in my class...is to drop it." He had the form filled out already! God Bless him though, he probably saved my high school GPA with those little words of wisdom! Here's to Mr. Woodward!:)
