I want to share a trick I have used recently that got me two interviews and two jobs. Do a little research, get the name of the facility/agency's hiring manager, and utilize the fax machine. It's a great alternative to email or online applications, which end up who-knows-where. A fax can be sent as a follow-up to an online application as well. My most recent position is with a facility that didn't even post the job, but just happened to be doing interviews that week. Yay, fax machine!

Call the unit where they work or call the facility or find it online.

Just write a basic fax cover letter and put it with your resume. I did the same thing when applying for jobs last year. I just googled sample nursing fax cover letters and used the examples I found to get an idea of how to write my cover letter.
An easy way to get the hiring managers name is to just call the facility and ask.
After two years, I'm not a new grad anymore. I just got bored with all the online applications I was submitting with zero response. I sent my resume, letter of interest, application (if available), references, and a cover sheet with directions on where to deliver the hard copies (DON, ADON, etc.). I really empathize with nurses out there trying sooo hard to get interviews.

I have to tell you, as a manager, I think I was tricked recently.
The front receptionist called me and told me my interview was here. I was just wrapping up a meeting and not in my office with my calendar handy but didn't recall having an interview scheduled. Anyways, finished up my mtg and went up front and just tried to wing it. Told her I was puzzled because I didn't recall an interview and didn't have it on my calendar (heck I didn't even know her name at this point - but was thinking maybe I just forgot to put it on calendar). She introduced herself and immediately began selling me on her.
Long story short - she had years of experienced, great personality and did indeed do a great job of selling herself. I hired her but I have to say....I still don't think she ever had an interview SCHEDULED with me. I have never come across an original resume or facility application for her although I always stack that kind of info in the same place.
I think this lady was flying by the seat of her pants and faking it just to get in the door. It worked for her. If your desperate, what do you have to lose? Just be prepared to dazzle if you do get in the door. LOL

I am so happy for you. I hope this can be me real soon.:)
Yes it does. Not certain I could ever be so bold. So far I have no regrets about hiring her tho so lets just hope it all works out and maybe someday I will get up the guts to ask her if she did indeed trick me.

I love my fax machine for job hunts but don't discover to late like I did that your fax doesn't send properly. I also like stapling $20 to my resume but unfortunately that tactic defeats the whole purpose of having a job to begin with.
Instead of asking if they were accepting application at the LTC's I would say I was there to apply for the LVN position. Most of the time they were like um no not hiring but when they were you knew which ones to follow up on.
