Trick to submit your resume and have it SEEN

Nurses LPN/LVN

I want to share a trick I have used recently that got me two interviews and two jobs. Do a little research, get the name of the facility/agency's hiring manager, and utilize the fax machine. It's a great alternative to email or online applications, which end up who-knows-where. A fax can be sent as a follow-up to an online application as well. My most recent position is with a facility that didn't even post the job, but just happened to be doing interviews that week. Yay, fax machine!

I submitted online applications to about 6 places and got no response so one day I just dressed up, printed off my resume and cover letter, and walked in the front door of the place I really wanted a job at (a rehab facility) and asked to speak with the HR director. She gave me an interview on the spot and called back 10 days later to give me the job. Sometimes you just have to get bold and stick your foot in the door. I know I would have never gotten a call back from this place if I hadn't just walked in. They had an online application that I had already filled out too. So I say, walk in some front doors, resume in hand, and ask where the Human Resources manager is, or ask for the hiring department. And be confident! It certainly can't hurt. The least they can do is turn you away and tell you to apply online. And even then, they'll still have a face to your name and will probably remember you.

NASCAR nurse, was she a nurse ??? Did her credentials check out?? If you never found the original application, how was she checked up on? Wow, I would never think of doing something like that.BOLD!

Of course I checked her out. She has an unrestricted nursing license in this state and the state she worked in a couple of years ago. Checked her references and all were good. She's also doing a fabulous job with me and her co workers all seem to like her.

Well happy to finally say 6 months after passing my boards(LPN)I landed a job last week. I called a LTC facility and was transferred to the staffing coordinator's voicemail. She called back a little while later and I asked if they were hiring and also inquired if experience was necessary. I was very frank because I didn't want to waste her time with trying to sell myself only to be told that experience was indeed necessary. She informed that it wasn't and invited for an interview the next day. I brought all of my documents necessary for LTC facilities(physical, registration etc). The end result was starting classroom orientation the next day!

I would cold call and ask if places were hiring, dress as I'm going for an interview to fill out applications and drop off my resume. I now look back to when I would go and fill out an application and I can say I wish I was a little more talkative and friendly with the receptionist at the front desk. This is a no brainer when you think about it now because if you make a good impression on her that's the difference between her personally giving your app/resume to the nursing director or filing it away in the drawer with the other ten apps that were filled out and are now waiting to be picked up by the nursing directors secretary! I was more comfortable talking on the phone and got a few leads that would always let me down. But I can say I that I have networked with some really great people so I'm hopeful for the future.
