A while ago I posted asking about the nursing program application process at Tri-C. I just wanted to update that I received acceptance into the Spring 2010 semester . The process was actually pretty fast. I am very excited. Hope to hear from others that will also start at Tri-C in the Spring.
NewStart2010:yeah:
You can't tell anything by the class averages. CCC has only been using the A2 for a very short period of time and those averages represent a handful of people. I assure you that CCC students are bright.
Class averages aside, you do not have to be very bright to get a 75% in math (when all you really need to know is how to use a calculator) and the English language (especially if it is your native). Plus, you only need a 2.5 GPA to get in and the only hard prerequisite course is intro to biochem. I'm sure most of the students are very bright as you wouldn't survive a nursing program if you weren't, but the minimum requirements to start the program are very very easy.

That intro to Bio Chem "Bio 1100" is very general. It's basically Chem 1010 and Chem 1020 only you cover half the stuff from 1010 and half the stuff from 1020. It's basically a survey course where you cover a little of this and a little of that. Although I can't really say for sure since I took the Chem 1010 and 1020. I know that I had a much easier time with the Physiology part of A&P having taken the 1010 1020 sequence than the students who only took 1100.

I took it at Columbus State and it was a pretty intense class, but I did well and I really enjoyed it. We covered a lot of both organic chemistry and biological chemistry. My uncle, a chemical engineer, was shocked at how much we covered so quickly. We had to have some form of biology and intro to general chemistry as prerequisites. I've also taken a year of general chemistry for science majors as well, but that was 4 years ago or more now.

I had never had any college level courses in chemistry prior to taking 1010 and 1020 at Tri-C. Not knowing I would be looking to change careers 10 years down the road I took a Solar System Astronomy course and an extrasolar astronomy course to cover the physical science GEC and Anthropology and Biology 101 to cover the Natural Science GECs for my BSEd at Ohio State. That was over 10 years ago. 1010 "Inorganic" chemistry was a lot of math. Chem 1020 "Intro to Organic and Bio Chem" was more IUPAC naming, enzymes, protein structure, DNA, metabolism aka krebs cycle, ect. I didn't find either very difficult.
Got my application to apply to Tri-C in the mail today. Also noticed today that the evening/weekend program is full for Fall 2010I wish the program would have waited another year to fill up 6 months faster than normal!!
I just noticed this, too. Kind of upsets me because I don't want to have to wait another year to get in the program when I am ready to go this fall! Do you think there's any chance there will be some cancellations and people will get bumped up?
Just curious, didn't you just take your A2 last week? I took mine almost 3 weeks ago and the college still hasn't gotten my results to send me the application. That was really fast. Did you have to call, or did they automatically send it to you? When I called, they told me it would take at least 4 weeks after I took my test.

The school receives the score results at the end of every month so anyone who took it in January had their scores received by the school by February 1 and they started sorting through them and mailing out letters to people who met the minimum score. I live in Columbus but happened to be in the area so I stopped by. You should be getting your letter soon though.
I'm hoping some people drop out, but you never know!!
Also - since I won't be starting until August 2011 now, I want to apply for the accelerated program instead of the traditional program. I was going to take physiology and microbiology over the summer. How would I go about doing that?

As long as you have an S number (are a Tri-C student) and meet the prereqs you can take any class you want apart from the classes that you have to actually be in a certain program (ie nursing) to take. I think the prereq for Micro 2500 is A&P 1 so you may be SOL on taking that.

The prerequisites for Micro is " BIO-1410 Anatomy and Physiology of Domestic Animals I; or BIO-2330 Anatomy and Physiology I; or BIO-1500 Principles of Biology I; or BIO-1050 Human Biology and BIO-105L Human Biology Lab and BIO-1100 Introduction to Biological Chemistry; or departmental approval: comparable knowledge or skills."
I have transfer credit for BIO-1500 and BIO-1100 so I think I should be good! I've also taken Human Anatomy but I don't get any transfer credit for that since Tri-C doesn't offer them as separate courses.
I'm just wondering if I should have to resubmit my application once I finish the coursework? I applied only for the traditional and evening/weekend program because I didn't meet the criteria for the accelerated program. So, will I have to start the process all over again or will I just have to make a simple phone call to get me record adjusted or what?

There isn't any difference between the "accelerated" and the "generic" nursing program. To be honest with you I don't have any idea why they even call them 2 different things. You take the same classes in the generic program as you do in the accelerated program in exactly the same order. Once you are in a nursing program it doesn't really matter what "program" if you want to call them that you were enrolled through. If you are in the accelerated program you'll be in nursing classes with generic track students. Heck if you are in the Evening/Weekend program you could probably sign up for day classes. Either way once you start taking the core nursing classes it takes 4 consecutive semesters to complete there really isn't anything accelerated about the "accelerated" program. Once you are in the program you shouldn't have to resubmit anything. Don't take my word for it though.
