Question:
Once you have taken NCLEX and passed it, you are LICENCED and you simply transfer or articulate or whatever the word is...your license to the new state if you want to move, CORRECT??
So at that point, it doesn't matter one iota WHERE you went to school. It only matters WHERE you want to originally take NCLEX and get licensed. But its relatively easy to move your license. You just show the new BON your license and pay a fee and you are licenced in the new state.
Am I wrong about this????
Does your license say on it where you went to school?
I'm considering Excelsior and I REALLY want to do some travelling once I'm licensed. Anyone have expereince having trouble with travel agencies/jobs due to getting an Excelsior education??
I've been told that once you work at your first job, it doesn't really matter where you went to school, interviewers only really look at your work expereince. Getting your dream job right out of school may be challenging but eventually you can work your way into it. thoughts?
thanks.

Most traveling agencies want you to have at least a year experience as an RN before they will let you sign with them. I have 7 years under my belt and called a few companies. Even though I have so much experience none would take me unless I had that year as being an RN.

You get your license endorsed to another state.
Some will NOT accept you as an RN if you went to Excelsior. It has nothing to do with passing the boards. For example, I could not travel to California because I can't be licensed there even though New York will.

You can only work or endorse to a state that approves EC for thier rn programs......California does not and there are few other states that also do not accept an EC degree.

I guess what traveler was asking ....you have a nursing licence..on my Lvn license it doesnt say where I went to school. Who checks that? the employer for your traveleing agency or the state of california board of licensing for example...I dont really know myself..

An employer or the traveling agency may choose to check on your education -- most of my employers over the years have verified my education as part of the hiring process. The state BONs verify your education as part of the licensure process (each time you apply for licensure in a new/different state). Some states have problems with EC -- CA will not license people who got their original/basic nursing education through EC, regardless of where or how long they have been practicing as an RN since then ... Other states have extra requirements for EC graduates, but will generally license them. We don't know how that situation will change in the future (whether the current states will relax their requirements, more states will decide to set limits on EC grads, or what).

Unfortunately the California Board of Registered Nursing does request your transcripts....I wanted to do Excelsior after I finished my LVN, but California doesn't recognize it...California is a hard state to please when it comes to nursing...but what I find so weird is that they're willing to accept foreign education over one from another state.....Not to knock on the people who come over here from other countries....I would just think that if they don't accept your school...dang, just let them take the NCLEX in the state you're trying to practice nursing in....If you want to practice in California I would say contact the BON and see what they say....But don't hold your breathe about getting a quick response...It's been a week and I'm still waiting for a response......Good luck and let us know the information that you obtain....

Ok! I am really confused now! I am doing the RN to BSN Threw the college network I TAKE CLEP,DANTE AND EXCELIOR TEST they are working with INDIANA STATE UNIVERSITY. So are you saying that after doing all this hard work i will not beable to get my RN here in Calif???
California recognizes Indiana State University as a distance course....It's a bit longer even with your LVN/LPN.....As long as your degree doesnt' say Excelsior on it, then you're ok....Just check with California to make sure that the school one chooses is accepted there......I know that most schools in "California" honor the Excelsior exams LOLOLOLOLOL.......but unfortunately the state doens't honor the degree...
:idea:ok, i will go do more checking at the state board site i guess wow shows how trusting we can be with our future and money lol i really hope i didnt just put all th:idea:is money up for nothing wow Thanks Again!
Excelsior is not the same college as Indiana.
You are ok. Ca accept the ISU RN BSN program. You will not be getting your degree with The College Network they are soley a puplishing company that just sells the test material and gives you info on where to test. Since you degree will be coming from ISU it is ok that you are testin on subjects through Excelsior ( as you degree is not coming from them). From what I have heard, is that Ca does not accept EC because there is not any clincal hours logged in and that is what the BON has a problem with. With EC you take clep, dantes to test out of generals, do nursing concepts on a self study basis, at the end you test out with CPNE(but not clinical hours)and then on to nclex. Ca at one points was not accepting ISU either for the same reason, but since ISU has partnered with Sonoma State Univeristy (located in CA) for the clinical component part of the program (495 clinical hours).
