Trauma nursing information for someone interested in that field.:)

I am hoping that I can at least be one of the nurses that will keep patient's chart what they are supposed to be...confidential.

It is not a matter of "hoping" you can keep a patient's chart confidential. It is a matter that you WILL keep patient information confidential or you will be hoping you can keep your license and not face a severe penalty.

With psychiatric patients, I feel they live the nightmare of living in a cycle. When they are out in society, they face the stigma that comes with mental illness. They are usually unwanted and some can not function in society so they are placed in a facility. So what happens when their healthcare can not be paid for anymore? The cycle continues! Man, when I become a nurse I want to assemble a team that will help put a stop to all of that! I already have one doctor on my side, lol! But I am hoping that we can pick up the mentally ill that are homeless are misplaced and take them to a long-term care facility. Oh man, I know it will be tough to get something government funded but this is my dream for my nursing career. To me that is what is really exciting, not only being able to say that hey I helped someone but hey I made a difference in LIVES, not just one. And I helped to make a difference in society with a caring nursing attitude and basic genuinity. And I will continue to make that difference and change things for people with mental illness.

Yeah, I hate the carelessness. I saw it today. A patient was first made an example of how not to live your life and then his chart was left open for a doctor who never came to view it (the computerized chart). I mean, the attitudes of the nurses there is astounding. Or maybe just that floor because on the oncology unit, the nurses are the best people.

Well shoot OP, it seems all you can do here is blabber off all the patient info you can. What's up with you, anyway? I must say you seem to get a buzz from other people's pain and suffering.

I do actually. As long as it is not someone I love or that I am close to I could care less. I mean, I have soooo many doctors in my family and circle of friends that I have adopted their darned attitude. I could honestly care less about what they are going through (adults, not kids!) because 9 times out of 10 it's their fault! And what the hell are you talking about silly, there was a post here called, "funny things patients say", and there was SOOOOOO much patient information given out HIPAA would have had a field day on you idiotic veteran nurses.

Hey Frazzled One, why did you delete your original post?

It's really rude to alter your post after several have quoted and/or replied.

Why did you bother posting at all?

The more I read, the more I'm convinced.

You have an oddly twisted perception of reality. And you're a student nurse. Scary, really.

Is this what you call a troll?

Thanks, :) I mean, you can't really define what reality is anyway. In my reality, nursing is not a boring career that consists of 70-75% paperwork and the rest actual patient care. No....that is not what it will be. Nursing can be exciting and it will be. That is why I don't understand the veteran nurses of today. They are very blahzay and have their noses so high in the sky they can smell martian bowels. It's sad. They think they are the ones that define nursing. Ha! Barely! Nursing can be exciting in the sense that you can help save a patient who comes in the ER after a bad accident and codes 5 minutes later. The excitement of saving his life....it's the reward of the job. These veteran nurses today...."oh let's take care of these patients with our regular routines and go home". Yes, patient care is important but the nonchalant attitudes....get the CNA to do the dirty work attitudes....ewww! But hey, I myself could care less any way if I save a life or not. Isn't that the mentality of today? Yes, my post was intentionally said with malice because that is the way of the nurses today. And these veteran nurses are also disgruntled because their salaries aren't matching the new nurses anymore, at least in this state. There are ADN charge nurses with BSN nurses working for them. Nice huh? So why shouldn't I have an attitude, why should I care? No one else does. Nursing is a dog-eat-dog world. Nurses don't care about nursing or patients especially you veterans. You're all in it for yourselves.

Your posts are rude and unnecessary. I work in the neonatal ICU, resuscitating infants who weigh as little as 500 grams. Does that mean I'm better than med-surg nurses?

No. Absolutely. Not.

If they didn't take good care of the older population, I would have to. Also, if one of my parents falls ill these experienced professionals will be the ones to care for my loved ones.

Different types of nursing appeal to different people. It's not that complicated. Learn to respect others. If you truly want to change practice, you will need to work on your communication skills.
