Town Hall Confrontation Re: Health Care ( or lack of it )

Nurses Activism

The link doesn't even work and I don't know how this is nursing news.

All I know is that there are a few extremist ReThuglicans that are being extremely rude. Their goal isn't proper calm dialog, but they aim to solely disrupt the townhall meetings. They're like little kids on a temper tantrum trying to out shout other people.

Rather childish really. Here are some other interesting vids of townhall meetings.

And heres some idiot who actually brought a gun to a townhall rally. Seriously?

I am so TIRED of being taxed to death

I'm so tired of paying exorbitant health care insurance premiums and co-pays -if I could pay half of what I already pay (as in other developed countries) my family would be a lot better off -especially in these tough economic times (DH is a contractor and work is scarce). Why do I have to pay for someone else's Medicare/Medicaid/indigent care as well as paying through the nose for my family's healthcare, with the threat of rescission, denial of coverage, medical bankruptcy and insurance costs doubling in the next 10 years hanging over our heads.

Our health care system is one of the most expensive in the world and one of the least effective. Look at the facts, we are around 37th in life expectancy and 50th in inefficiency. Health care should not be for profit. I am dating myself here, but I never remember pharmacuetical ads on TV. The pharma co's and HMO's are making a fortune. Most of the people screaming at these so called town hall meetings are very well organized. There are a ton of websites out there who coach them on what to say and how to disrupt what should be a serious thoughtful discussion on what this country has been facing for a long time. Remember the voter's rights act and medicare also faced alot of opposition from a controlled group of activists. Fortunately, some in congress and the senate grew a set and did the right thing. Will that happen again? I can only hope.

1. Yelling at the Representative was extremely rude and IMO made him seem like a crackpot. He could have had an excellent point and important things to discuss, but it was all lost the moment he started shouting and acting threatening. I understand many Conservatives feel disenfranchised with the current administration and legislation, but the Town Hall meetings are set up for them to be able to voice their opinion, not shove it down people's throats. When they do things like this, and the crazy Birthers, they aren't making progress, they're making things worse because it's just pushing the divide further between political parties.

2. Our tax rate is one of the lowest, especially considering a large portion of the population receive a large chunk of their federal taxes back in tax returns. But we pay through the nose for healthcare that isn't making us healthier.

Clearly, these are extreme right wing-nut conservatives. These are the individuals that would never have supported Obama or any other Democrat regardless of the merits of their ideas. All they've wanted is failure for partisan gain. One thing's for sure - they're showing the country how crazy and out of touch they are. They're just continuing to push away moderates, who are the ones that make the difference in elections. Fine by me.

what does he even know about the obama plan? Medicare is a government run health care insurance, you don't hear many complaints about that. I say down with all FOR PROFIT health insurance plans. I dont like my Blue Cross, thats for sure.

No complaints about Medicare? One of the most poorly run government programs and no complaints? It's going bankrupt and no complaints?

A lot of these concerned citizens are seniors that are very worried about their Medicare being taken away.

Quite honestly I work on a Medicare unit and don't hear many complaints about Medicare at all, even from the You-Didn't-bend-my-straw types.

In fact, medicare has the best hospice provision. It is going bankrupt because the money that was supposed to be earmarked for medicare was spent elsewhere by irresponsible elected officials who banked on not having to use it themselves.

Most of the arguments against healthcare reform are based in fear that is being sown and grown by partisan opponents of this administration and by corporate interests afraid of losing huge profits. We cannot sustain a health system that consumes such an enormous portion of our GNP each year with such poor results. It is time for change.

Merged threads.

Rank-and-file' Americans are not 'practiced' in Town Hall forums, nor even interfacing with their representatives. They work, shrug their shoulders at Dems or Repubs, and go back to what they believe is really important.

But the runaway govt spending that is occurring has them concerned -- and the health care debate has some panicky. The media sound bite coverage doesn't do the process justice. It's not smooth, most of it is not organized -- but it IS real.

Health care cost reform is tip of the iceberg for what concerns many citizens.

Whether it is government or insurance firms or pharmaceuticals -- there's plenty of corruption to go around. In the end, I want them ALL out of my pocket.

Much as I'm weary of the sensationalism, I'm hoping for this debate to continue until some root cause issues are addressed.

I believe that something should be done about the cost of health care in this country, but allowing the government to get its hands on it is not the answer and the point you made is a great reason why. Medicare is going bankrupt because of corrupt politicians, both democrats and republicans, spending the money elsewhere, just like they did and are currently doing with social security. Our government has one of the worse track records in regards to programs like this and it appalls me that so many people are just so willing to allow them to do so without attempting other measures first.
