Nurses Career Support

Hello All!

I wanted to start a new thread for the Torrance Memorial Medical Center New Grad RN Versant Program that is to begin in February of 2014. Good luck to all who applied! Lets keep each other posted if we hear anything.

Hi Adecstatic, good luck with the process. It sounds like you and mom2doubles did well.

Could you send me the email of your friend who you believe chose critical care as his/her first choice (and who also got a second interview)? I'd appreciate your help.

My email is [email protected]

Hey, bonepan. I'm not sure how he feels about his email being given out so I just gave him your email. Good luck!

I said I have a tendency to be too hard on myself. That I know we're human and we make mistakes but I take mistakes to heart too much, regardless of how big or small it was...which led to the off-the-paper question what was my best mistake. LOL. I hate that question. I've heard of that question but it's the first time I've been asked. I'm not sure how many people got a second interview. Was there anyone after you? If not, they interviewed 4 yesterday. I'm really hoping they'd get back to us by the end of the week. It would be a great early Christmas present! :) Good luck to us all!!

I know exactly what you mean! They also asked me for a copy of my resume which I also didn't have. In my defense though I let them know that I had asked the person that called to schedule me if I needed to bring anything and was told no. My questions were pretty much easier than the first one and I had even got a question that the recruiter had asked me. What did you say your weakness was? I told them that even though my coach and CI were confident in my knowledge and abilities that I wasn't always and that I'm a hands on learner and just need to get in there and do my thing. Kinda hard to read though. I am hoping to hear soon also. Any idea how many people got a second interview or a timeline on there decision? I'm thinking it will be made before January.

I don't think there was anyone after me. When I first got the call first got the call i was told I could have a 3 pm slot. Then he called back and said the last appt was 230. I agree, it would be a wonderful early Christmas present. . That was actually one of my challenges also but for some reason at the last minute I switched up and said what I did.

So they just did seconds on tues and wed? Do you know how many interviews on tues? Wonder if there will be anymore ?

Hi Adecstatic,

if you could gently remind your friend to send me an email, I'd appreciate it. Thanks!

I don't know how many second interviews they did (or are doing). If they didn't do any in the morning, they interviewed 4 candidates on Tuesday. Don't know about today or the rest of the week.

Bonepan, I sent him an email again asking to contact you.

Hello everyone,

I am so glad to find this thread. Thank for you those who have posted, it was very interesting to read about everyone's experiences regarding TMMC interviews for the new grad RN Residency Program 2014. I received a call from the HR Nurse recruiter the 2nd wk of December and had my 1st and 2nd interview on Dec 18th. Going in, I didn't know what to expect except what the HR Nurse recruiter "M" had already mentioned to me such as medication dosage test, an interview with her, and then interview with a panel of nurse managers. The general questions that the HR recruiter asked me was fairly straight forward and I answered it honestly and confidently. Then the New Grad Program manager "P" introduced herself to me, took my picture, and led me to a room of nurse managers. Before I went in the room, she told me to just be myself, and that there is no right or wrong answers. "P" is such a sweet lady. I heard some great things about her from an acquaintance so I was very happy to get a chance to meet her. In the room, there were a total of 5 interviewers. One by one, they asked me 1-2 questions. I had a total of 9 questions. To my surprise, about 6 of those questions were clinical questions that required basic knowledge. I had completed my clinical rotations and RN preceptoship 6 months ago so although the clinical questions should have been easy, it was a lil difficult for me since I was out of the "nurse mode" for a while. I did the best I could and always answered in the line of "patient safety." At the end, they asked if I have any questions for them. Since the HR recruiter answered all my questions, I had to think of one real quick for them! I didn't know how many openings there were or on what units, so I asked them what is my chance of getting into ICU or PCU? I told them I am interested in getting into ICU or PCU, but is willing to go to med-surg and work my way to ICU. One of the nurse managers asked if I was interested in ED, and I said yes with my eyes wide-opened. I never knew that was even an option! That concluded our session. All and all, I had good vibes from the interviewers, I did the best I could, and enjoyed the experience. My appt was in the early morning, and there were more interviewees behind me. Dec 18th was the last day of interviews. "M" said she will be on a mini vacay and I wont hear back from her with the results until early January.

There are so many great qualities about TMMC, it's located close to my house, so I am really hoping to get in.

Good luck to everyone! I truly believe everything happens for a reason so don't give your hopes up in this Job Search madness! Wishing you all a wonderful New Year!

You sound a lot like me with regards to feeling like you'd forgotten everything. I finished my preceptor ship in Sept and it still felt like I'd forgotten everything nurse related. Hope things turnout for all of us. This is also close to me plus this is MY hospital and has been for over 1 years. Had all 4 of my children there.

I meant over 14 years.

I am scheduled for an interview on Jan. 14th. I was told to bring:

-Transcripts (can be unofficial for now, but would need to turn in official ones prior to being hired)

-2 letters of recommendation (1 from clinical instructor; 1 personal reference)

-Resume

-All certifications/licenses (i.e. RN license, BLS, ACLS, PALS, etc...)

I was also told that I will need to take a 20 question med math test at some point during the interview process.

The structure is a quick interview with the nurse recruiter, the med. math test, and a panel interview.

Hope that helps, and good luck to all who are applying!
