Since I am not going into nursing school until next fall (2010), I decided to take all my pre-reqs and some co-reqs to eliminate some of the stress and pressure once I get into NS. So my Fall semester is looking like A&P w/ Lab I, Micro w/ Lab, and Nutrition. Does this seem like too much to handle? Will my brain explode from all the science courses?
I also have a full-time job and a 6 year old. Two of the classes are on Saturday and one on like a Wednesday night. So, should I just stick with 2 classes or go for the gold? Spring Semester is looking very similar with A&P w/ Lab II, General Psych, and Conversational Spanish.:typing

Hi. I am in almost the same position as you. I am taking A&P1 and Chemistry in the fall and A&P2 and Micro in the spring. I'm doing Developmental Psych in July and the Nutrition class next summer (at the actual nursing school that I'm trying to get into). When I spoke to the nursing recruiter at the nursing school, she told me 2 pre-req classes a semester is more than enough. Especially 2 science classes. I also have a 7 year old and a 6 month old baby.
I would say if you think you can handle it when it comes down to the tests and studying, then go for it. Only you know what your study habits are and time management. That's all I read about on these forums is "time management". Nursing school is gonna be tough period.
Good Luck!

I would say that, IMO, your Spring semester looks fine, but Fall looks kind of scary. I work FT w/ a 4 year old and am a type A overachiever (I took nutrition, med term and a management class all this summer in accelerated session as an example lol) and I don't think i'd take A&P & Micro together. I took A&P II and pre-calc together last semester and thought my brain might explode.
Unless you are already familiar w/ A&P or Micro (i.e. from a health background) I don't think i'd risk it. Too much Science or Math/Science combo in a semester is usually something very difficult to do and adding in the stressors of working and being a parent it gets even harder.
*ETA* - I should say that it's not impossible to do, I recieved an A in both A&P II and Pre-Calc, but it's extremely stressfull ontop of the work and family stress. So if you have to do it (the pre-calc class was only offered that semester for me) it's possible, but if you don't have to then maybe try and work it another way.

I don't know. Maybe I should just switch out Nutrition, and focus on A&P and Micro? My job offers a lot of down time. I know I can get a good 3-4 hours of studying in a day, just here alone.
I don't come from a health background at all, but I was always really good at Science. Thanks for your advice guys.

If you're taking too much then I definetely am lol. I'm taking Human Anatomy w/lab, Micro w/lab, statistics and developmental psych. I don't really have a choice though as I've got four science classes to knock out in two semesters so no matter which way I switched it I'd be taking two a semester.
I've seen a lot of people take A&P with Micro. If you have enough time to study both I don't think they will be too bad. I don't work or have any responsibilities so I can dedicate enough study time to both and I only have Anatomy once a week and on a different day than I have micro. However I think you might wanna switch Nutrition out with either general psych or maybe Spanish.

I think it's good you want to get your gen eds out of the way (that's how I'm doing it and for the same reason). I think 3 science classes will be tough but not impossible. But I wouldn't risk it. (GPA) I think the plan of A&P and micro and maybe psych sounds more feasible. I'm taking A&P l, eng 2 and developmental psych this fall.
There's going to be a study group for A&P this fall in this forum so make sure you stop by! Good Luck to you!
Definitely! I am going to need all the help I can get! Thanks so much!!!

I would do whatever it took to not have pre-reqs or co-reqs left during nursing school.
To be honest, pre-reqs and co-reqs are a piece of cake compared to nursing school. You can take all of those classes in one semester and it still won't compare to the stress of nursing school.
Do what you gotta do to lighten your nursing school load.

Do what you have to do, but I think taking A&P in the same semester as Micro will be tough. Can you take Micro in a summer session?

Don't u have to have ap 1 over with before u take micro? My prereqs are finished except for micro. I am applying for fall 2010 nursing as well. I also have an 8 year old at home, just her and I. Soooo I know nursing will be a little rough when I get there. But goodluck to u and study hard in those science classes. U need a sound background in both ap 1 and 2.
Did you school have you take any bio classes before you could take A&P. My college made us take a year of general bio which was the only pre-req for micro so that may be why A&P is not the pre-req for me or the OP.
Thanks Guys, you just saved me! I wasn't sure about the pre-reqs, so I checked. I have to take A&P I before I can take Micro!!! So it looks like I'll be taking A&P I, General Psych, and Nutrition, this fall. Next semester will be the scary one (A&P II, Micro, and Spanish -OR- Developmental Psych). I am considering holding off on the Spanish since it isn't really a required at the moment - but defnitely an asset.
