Yep, they let new grads in the ICU all the time... true story, I've seen it happen. Even ADN nurses. (OMG! ADN's can't work in ICU! They'll hurt the patients.) In fact, some hospitals prefer to hire new grads in the ICU, because they don't have to break all the "bad habits" they learned elsewhere. And, yep, ADN nurses get BSN tuition reimbursement from hospitals all the time... the nursing field in wide open my friend... The best way to get in, is the cheapest way to get in... (OMG!--- you're just in it for the money! You'll be a horrible nurse!) Oops, lets not forget the ubiquitous "nurses eat there young" story that's told...
Excuse me while I argue with myself...
There is a lot of that which goes on anywhere in life. Sometimes you just have to use your own judgment too. This is only suggestions and advice. Do not replace it for your own judgement. When it all comes down to it and you ever have to go before the BNE they will not ask you what the other nurse told you to do, what the dr told you to do. They will ask you what YOU DID AND WHAT THE HOSPITAL PROTOCOL IS. They will look at what another prudent nurse might have done in that situation, but that is it. They will look at your judgment. They will NOT CARE about what anyone else said or didn't say
You are singing to the choir. I understand you being angry, but by staying angry you are only hurting yourself. Even if you are in charge, if she has her own license she is responsible for what she does. If she messes up, she has to answer for her license not you. She knows you aren't happy with her. Hopefully, she will start to be more aware.
I have worked with people like that before and I know it can be very frustrating. That is why I no longer work in that field. Good luck.
SOmeone may go entirely by what they read on here and not investigate any further... they could miss out on great oppurtunities.
Then that someone did not truly want that opportunity.Desire backed by faith, knows no such word as impossible. So even reading it on internet should not limit the person. Fight for your dreams.

I think when you get advice you need to use your own judgement to determine if you agree. Anyone who would not investigate on their own is only doing themselves wrong.

First let me say that I truly love this site. I do come here quite frequently for advice. However, one thing that I truly despise is when people on here think that they know everything and they obviously do not. They are giving "bad" advice to people on here and it makes me soo mad! I work at a very well known hospital in Cleveland Ohio. I got very lucky to get in there. One thing that makes me so mad is when people come on here and ask about information about this particular hospital and some of these nurses on here give inaccurate information. For example: my hospital hires diplomas, ADN's and BSN's. There are people on here that say.... "Oh, they only hire BSN's. Or.... "they dont hire new grads"......or "you can't get tuition reimbursement". This makes me so mad because none of it is true. I was a new grad, ADN, who got tuition reimbursement. I could have went directly into ICU but I chose not to. Even though people on here said that my hospital doesn't let new grads into ICU. My point is that people need to think about what you say before you type it!!!!! SOmeone may go entirely by what they read on here and not investigate any further... they could miss out on great oppurtunities.
