I can already imagine what responses I'll get....But anyway...I and im sure, alot of other people who are pursuing a degree in Nursing are tired of some of the remarks that are made on this site regarding Nursing school! It's already stressful for many of us who are trying to get into a program and to hear such things like " when will this end," "15 people dropped out of my Nursing class last semester!!,"etc makes it even more stressful for us! Nursing school is not easy , but Im sure it's not "Hell." I have known many people who applied and got accepted into Nursing school with a 2.7.Uhmmmm, thats "pretty average Joe" to me and hey, they're pretty good Nurses now.

i found this on allnurses a few years ago searching around..

i read it every now and then and chuckle at it's truthness...

Top 10 Subtle Differences Between Nursing School and Hell

1. You wouldn't tell a friend to go to nursing school.

2. You know there are hot women/men in Hell.

3. You only have to sell your soul to get into Hell.

4. People smile in Hell.

5. Hell is forever. Nursing school just seems like it.

6. At least you can sleep in Hell.

7. You can't flunk out of Hell.

8. It is more fun getting into Hell.

9. Everyone has heard of Hell.

10. It doesn't rain in Hell.

Smiles, fun, and sleep in Hell? What's your reference, LOL?

And so, what does the OP have to say, now that the thread is 7 pages long?

LOL, but as of your posting, it's only 28 hours old. Give her time, she may be busy looking for different career options.

I've been with my wife for 6 years...no kids. I've come to the conclusion that RN school made me sterile. In additon, my hair started to thin, I've gained weight, and became a borderline alcoholic. OTHER THAN THAT, IT'S BEEN A HELL OF A RIDE! GOOD LUCK IN NURSING SCHOOL! :wink2:

:rotfl: :rotfl: :roll

Cheers,

that was absolutely hilarious! I can sympathize, i have had the issues with the hairloss and my treadmill has now become a very expensive clothes hanger!!!

You are a non-student telling students not to vent about how hard school is. This is much like students telling us nurses with experience not to vent about what happens at work because we're scaring the students. Wait until you're a student and then you have the right to comment on how other students vent. This is a place for people who are going through things to VENT. If you don't want to hear it, wait until you are a student before you read them.

I agree, the most useful advice i recieved is that be prepared for the fact that you may contemplate wanting to quit often - now that i know the feeling is to be expected and shared by others - i can just deal with the stress and know that i am not alone and that i don't have to give in on the days where i want to. It may not sound like positive advice that she is receiving but in the end it will be the most helpul - it's just a reality check!!!

Honest. When I applied to nursing school the lowest GPA for acceptance was a 3.8, nursing school is stressful (I filed for divorce....several times), 1/2 of the class did not graduate.

My 16 year old daughter is looking into the top nursing school in the nation, and she was told by the school......do not apply if you have less than a 3.8 GPA.

Which school IS the top nursing school in the nation?

Just curious. :wink2:

It is wise to refrain from going into nursing wearing a rose-colored pair of glasses. There are positive and negative aspects of nursing, and I would want to know all about the benefits and drawbacks if I were a student. It's in your best interests to read the occasional vents rather than pretend that everything is rosy about the field.

It's good to vent! God knows, nursing students and nurses need to. I think it's probably good to know how hard it is in nursing school. I have seen a handful of very good LPNs flunk out because they thought they knew it all, and didn't. We have to study study study, then study some more. I think our exams are difficult, but I also know exactly what will be covered. One thing's for sure - don't confuse your grades with self-esteem. I easily got As in my prerequisites, such as anatomy and micro, yet have yet to see one in my program. If I get a B on an exam, according to me, I aced it. The thing I'm most likely to vent about is the handful of emotionally immature and MEAN students in our program. Who needs it?

Thank goodness for this site! It is about venting and like many others have said, we have all been to nursing school, some experiences more grueling than others. This is the real world and when you complete school you may have a thing or two to say to vent and we'll be here for you! Keep up the good work because getting through nursing school to me was more of an achievement than getting my first job! :0)

Thank you so much...I really needed this laugh. Why do nursing instructors have to be so hateful? I have never in my life run into such a group of women in my life and I work in a unit with over 100 RN's. Sure you see and will work with all types in the "REAL WORLD" but who needs to be ridiculed and belittled for making mistakes or asking questions IN THE CLASSROOM...not in clinical.

I am 47 years old and the average age of my class of over 100 is 30 so we do not need to build character. We also have a GPA of 3.7 or higher so we are not ignorant yet we are treated that way every day.

Yesterday 5 people out of 30 got lost going to an assignment in a city they had never been to and were belittled all day. One was even called stupid. Our school has a 98% pass rate on the NCLEX so we are told it makes it all worth it...OK...Thanks for the vent!

I take satisfaction in seeing those type of students get their faces ripped off by experienced nurses once they actually get on the floor. They might get away with that behavior for awhile in nursing school but it doesn't fly when you are on the floor. In our college, the year 2 class is particularly immatrue and nasty to each other, i watched 3 teachers stand all of them up and address the nasty and mean behavior with a pretty good tongue lashing and everyone looked pretty darn humbled after the spiel was over. :yeah: Especially since it was coming from very well respected teachers who also worked part time/full time in the hospital and were considered quite reasonable and fair.

Those students need to grow up or go back to highschool where that behavior belongs.:twocents:

To me.......nursing school was a lot easier than the real world of nursing, and nursing school is one of the hardest things I've ever done.

I totally agree.

I wish you all the best on getting into the program. I'm sure you'll succeed. However, until you are actually experiencing being in the program and how grueling and sometimes frustrating it can be, please consider the people who are there. I had a bad day and used "hell" in my post but I'm allowed to feel that way just like I'm allowed to feel elated at success. You get the good and the bad in the nursing program PERIOD. That's the way it is.

Thanks to everyone else that posted and supports my need to vent. I'm getting over it and moving onwards and upwards! I'm going to graduate this December no matter what!

I LOVE THIS WEBSITE!
