To tell or not to tell?

Nursing Students General Students

Hi there!

So, I just finished up my first semester of nursing school. I have something that has been bothering me for some time, and would just like a little feedback. A lot of us have found ways to study, whether that be going over things in NCLEX books or other resources. Recently, some have stumbled upon quizlet. A lot of the students noticed that most of the test questions could be found on quizlet. Since then everyone has been utilizing that site. Those who weren't doing so well, have managed to bring up their grades and passed this semester. I'm not sure, how I feel about it. I know nursing school itself is hard, but everyone still has to do the work. Some students barely studied the books but instead studied quizlet. I was thinking about anonymously sending an email to the instructor but I don't want to jeopardize anyone getting in trouble. However, I just want it to be fair for everyone. For those who really works hard for it. I'm not sure how I feel and just want reassurance. I appreciate any feedback. Thank you.

I would ask the instructor whether he/she has heard of quizlet. He/she should be aware that this resource is available, and may know about it already. You are agonizing over something that may have little importance. The most important issue right now is for you to get some peace about this and move on. I would at least ask the question and let her/him take it from there. if you give too much information, you may be asked to report something that you'll regret later. Unless, it has been specifically warned against , I would not consider myself reporting on my classmates if I don't give names and other details.

you are letting things that doesn't concern you distract you from your studies. There will always be a way for someone to find answers to an exam. Those people who don't study want be able to pass the NCLEX if they don't remember anything. Just make sure that you are doing what you have to in order to gain the knowledge and allow you to pass your state exam. You guys are not in competition with each other and them succeeding will not effect you.

If anyone at my school gets caught using quizlet they are expelled. It's considered cheating.

I used quizlet to study during school and maybe 3-4 questions would pop up on the test. I assumed they were book questions because our professor would give us freebie questions. It doesn't at all mean that I didn't study my ass off, too. Is the entire exam popping up?

Why don't you focus on passing and graduating? The tests in nursing school are often taken from a variety of published resources. You run the risk of having your entire class failed out based on some sanctimonious desire. Nobody likes a brown noser....

Yeah, it just doesn't feel right. I'm afraid to say something because what if the whole class gets in trouble for it? I was thinking of creating a new email and sending it that way, but I was afraid they may be able to see my IP address and trace and back to me. I'm not sure if I am doing it for selfish reasons or not. There are people in my class that I know would most definitely not pass had it not been for that site. I just want it to be fair. I did well without quizlet because I studied my A$$ off.

Basically, you are asking permission to tell because you have made up your mind ALREADY... You are burning to turn those students in because you think that you have studied - and you want to get the other students (who you feel have not worked as hard as you) in trouble. If you tell, rest assured the entire student body will somehow find out it is you. Further, there is a chance the whole semester will be invalidated and you will get a chance to show how wonderful you are.... By redoing the semester... Or, the future tests will become so incredibly difficult that you might fail out. You can pretend you are "concerned" about the other students' future patients, that you think it is "unfair" to your instructors, etc. But the cold reality is you want to turn people in and that is your motivation... I strongly suggest you focus on yourself.

During my first semester, the tutor assigned by the school would use those Quizlet questions after all her lectures (which were broadcast live online). Out of probably 50-80 questions, maybe 4-6 would show up on the test. Many students used Quizlet to review after reading, going over powerpoints, doing Evolve questions, going to tutoring, etc, and talked openly about it. If those students in OP's post went from failing to getting As, it is unlikely it is just from Quizlet, but from stepping up their studying habits altogether. Also, from my limited experience, Quizlet questions usually have a a fairly detailed rationale, so it is not just memorizing.

So, I would stay out of it. There are so many practice questions on Quizlet, some from Evolve, some from case studies, some from various textbooks and review books, and, yes, some from test banks, there is a good chance they are actually using the questions to learn the material. Anyway, "not my circus, not my monkeys" is a good motto to live by.

If you want to use the new email method, sign onto a public library computer to send. Make sure to make up a name like "concerned student" when creating the account.

Um...just mind your business honestly lol. They're still studying and they found a way to do it efficiently. Just worry about yourself and make sure you do what you need to do. Utilize those quizlet questions if you like in addition to doing your own personal study of the textbook materials.

Or maybe your instructor is lazy to create her own questions and chose to go with quizlet.

On the other hand, who has time to memorize questions and look it up online? The last time I checked, that alone can get you kicked out from the program because that's consider cheating.

Whatever happened to test integrity? I'd be a little annoyed also, but honestly- anyone relying on quizlet or the tests alone, will have real problems when it comes to nclex prep. Mind your own work and rise above.
