are you the kind of person that is satisfied already in passing the exam or on the other side in which you are satisfied because you got the highest grade? i am the kind of person which is not satisfied on just passing my exams, i always aim to be the one who will get the highest grade in our exams in major subjects. i get sad and depressed when i am not the highest which is not a good thing. there are already several times that i got the highest grade especially when we were in third year and the last time i got the highest grade is on our preliminary examination on Nursing management and leadership. i was not expecting it actually but thank God i was able to do it. because of this attitude, my friends would tell me that i should be happy because i passed compared to our other classmates who really failed in the exam. i am still trying avoid that kind of attitude even though there are only 2 months before our graduation. for you, what do you want, to pass or to be the highest?
It just kills me when people get irrate because they got a 88, when there are other students who would kill to get that 88.It makes people feel really bad who is not doing so well to hear a person with a passing score complain.
It kills me when people have to lower their standards to make others feel so good about themselves. I mean, I'm not gonna walk around saying 'Dang, this stupid 97! I should have gotten a 100,' but give us a break...
What I have done though is on a particularly hard, and recent test the prof announced that only 5 people passed and only 1 got above a 90. Out of a class of 25.
When I got my test and it said 99% I yelled 'YES!' and did my little imitation Kelly Washington touchdown dance.

Life IS a competition. Either with someone else or with yourself. If you don't compete you stagnate.
Are there any C students here to defend themselves?A lot of the forums I read, everyone claims to be a supermom with an A+ average, yet no one wants to admit to being a B/C student which is much more realistic IMO.
What makes that more realistic?? I honestly had WAY more As than Bs in NS. I did have a C in one class and I thanked God for it...I was told that class was the "stop gap" to slow the progression of students into the program.
I also worked, helped take care of my father with terminal cancer, and I'm the mother of a disabled daughter. Sorry, just the facts.
I do like to have the highest grade but thats because I know I can with just putting a little more effort than I normally would. I don't lose sleep over it but I think it would be horrid to be second by only a few points. Besides I like getting all the questions right =D Makes me feel like I made a good career decision and makes me relaxed and comfortable on the floor.
I know several people who study hard, and sometimes get C's. Nursing school is hard and well life sometimes throws you curveballs. I know one young man who one day is going to be a wonderful nurse, but he did have trouble with tests, and failed out of the program. His wife had just had their first baby and he had made it a year, but stumbled on the medical rotation, which is a hard rotation. That shocked the rest of us sober. Now we are concerned about making it through the program without losing any more of our classmates. We have formed friendships and we help each other, and our goal is to make it all through together. I strive to maintain a high GPA, but if I should stumble I won't beat myself up over it and I will be glad that I am still on the road to being a nurse.
I wonder how many nurses will pass a random exam from nursing school after working for about a year or more ?
From what I hear from some nurses, they wouldn't.
Half the material we are tested on is not going to stay with us forever !
The real test is working as a nurse, giving competent care, and showing unconditional compassion.
20 years from now, I may not know the answer to this question off the top of my head: A client has just had his anticoagulant therapy monitored via international normalized ratio. What is the rational for using this laboratory value ?
However with experience I will be able to give competent care, and give compassion.
Yes, I'm obligated to keep up c- the trends in nursing care, and with new diseases and interventions, however my grades in nursing school will never determine what kind of nurse I'll be.
I get A's and B's on nursing exams, I don't brag, no need to. If you pass nursing school with an A or C, you'll still be a nurse. You are no smarter than the nurse with a C.
I was friends with a classmate last semester, who failed almost every exam.
I told her I would study one day with her to help her understand the material better. When I met with her I was expecting her to know nothing, and be completly lost !
However, she was actually very smart and knew the material like the back of her hand. She was spitting out info from the book like a robot. She really did understand the disease process, interventions, and etc.
She didn't fail the exams because she was not smart, or didn't study, she failed because she was a poor test taker. She just did not know what some of these questions were asking of her. It broke my heart when I heard she failed the class, because this girl is really brillant. I just think she needs to find her weakness in answering questions and work on that.
This is just an example of how nursing exams don't determine whether someone is going to be a competent nurse !
Hope no nurses got offended, just trying to state a point
I think the best thing is to do the best you can. We all have our bad days and we all have our good days and this can weigh heavily on grades also. ou might not be as prepared as you wanted or maybe you could be...just do your best and if you feel like you didnt do well re-examine the material and you will never forget it.

LOL ! That you tube video was very funny ! I'll be doing that dance When I graduate
I am one of those people who is not satisfied unless I get the highest grade in the class. It sounds so bad.... It's not that I want to "beat" everyone and be "better" than they are, I just have extremely high expectations of myself. If I get a 95 and someone else got a 100, I feel like I didn't do as well as I could have, therefore I did not study enough.
I am one of those people who, even through high school, never had to study and still made A's. I don't think I am any smarter than the next person, God just gave me a gift- academics come easy for me. And I am very thankful for it, since I don't have a lot of time to study after work and kids.
It happened today. I got a 90 on our first assigment. Most people got the same grade, and many got below that, and I was thrilled, until I saw three people with 100's. I was not thrilled anymore. It makes me feel like such a bad person to feel this way. I try to tell myself that I did my best and that is all that matters, but it's hard to get rid of that bitter feeling.
I am a horrible person!!!!!!!!
I have made A's on every test that I have taken since the beginning of my college career (started Jan. 2008 and I have 36 credits so far. But that is because I study my butt off!!! I mean I know the material inside and out and I love a and p! I never volunteer my grade to anyone, but sure enough there is always someone going around asking everyone in class what they made. When they ask, I tell them. I also tell them how hard I study and how I love learning. Since I am 36 and just now starting college, I realize how valuable learning is. I am proud of my grades because I work hard for them!! I usually do have the highest test grade in class when everyone is comparing grades, but I also attribute lower grades from not studying enough or maybe not knowing one's own way of learning. For instance I apply all learning styles when I study. I use verbal, visual, auditory, and kinetic learning to help encode the material into longterm memory. I think if one knows one's learning style, it makes all the difference! In A and P our professor gives out little prizes to anyone that earns an "A" on their test. Usually out of 35 people, maybe 4 of us earn A's. Yes, there is one person in last semester's class that would brag on and on about their A. I do not think that is very becoming. One never knows when a failing grade will happen. So while I enjoy doing well in school, I am also humble and know that to keep my A's I must stay on top of studying.:typing:wink2:

Also, I should point out that I am pre-nursing and I understand that the Nursing classes will be considerably more difficult. So I am sure though I would like to keep making A;s on exams, come nursing classes, I am sure that I will have to be happy with below that. However, I will not stop striving for the A. It fires me up!! When I expect no less than an A for myself I feel motivated and unstoppable. Please note, I am not working so I have time to study. Also note, my daughter is 18 so this also frees up my time for studying. I REALLY admire the ones that work, go to school and have little ones at home to contend with. Making an A with all of that going on is indeed awesome!! So my hat is off to those dealing with multiple roles along with college student!:redpinkhe
