This is not for debating, but observation. I just want to know to the nurses out there, why do you refuse to help a cna? Why do you not want to show teamwork? Why do you just say no?
Again, this is not for debating or arguing. I'm just interested to see the responses I get.
I never refuse to help the CNAs unless I am dealing with something important. Say the lab just calls with a critical hemoglobin and hematocrit on my patient I only have 30 mins to talk to the doc and get an order. If my patient has a temp of 103 and the doc orders IV fluids and antibiotics now, that is my priority. I get aggravated because many people don't see what nurses have to go through. Sometimes I get asked when I'm trying to pass meds to 6 people. I'll get stuck in the room for 30 mins and now I'm 30 mins behind on my med pass and I have 3 patients calling for pain meds at the same time. We should all help each other out but I wouldn't expect a CNA to drop everything they're doing to help me when they're busy. I've encountered some who ask for help and they need it NOW. Let me say again, I love to help and always do but sometimes it's hard when it's extremely busy and there are higher priorities. I have seen people not help just because they're lazy and that's uncalled for..
I help whenever I can and many CNA's have complemented me on this. Sometimes though, it seems like the aids think I am not busy when I am... I typically never get a break but my aids always DO! When I ask an aid to bring a resident to the bathroom instead of doing it myself it is because I have one hour to pass meds to 30+ people or I have a mountain of charting to do and so on....
