To MCC students- current and prospective questions!

Published

Hi everyone! I am looking around for info on the MCC admission process. I know that there is no waitlist, students are ranked according to 50% HESI score and 50% gpa in three courses (comp 1, microbio, anatomy 1).

I am trying to get a feel for how this process goes. Could some of you who are admitted- congrats btw, please post what your HESI score was, your gpa, when you applied and when you will be starting? I am trying to get a feel for the process......

thanks!!

Applications are due in Feb. and you will hear if you got in by late april early May. There is a required orientation mid May when you can request a start date but unless you have a high ranking it won't matter. You should know when you start (aug, oct, jan, march) by late june. Sign up for the Hesi starts in the summer...so you should be looking into that by now.

As for GPA/Hesi numbers...I'm not sure what anyone here tells you will matter. Starting this year the requirements are different than what we had. Before, it was your last 12 credits or HS GPA that counted for the GPA half. It could be ANY college classes. This of course was adjusted if you had 12+ credits your last semester or if you did your credits at a school such as baker that doesn't do traditional semesters. This meant that people could take art, gym, and any easy class to get an A. I'm guessing that the average GPA to get into the program is going to fall a bit from now on. Most people applying had a 4.0, but you could probably have as low as a 3.8 before if you did well on the Hesi.

The Hesi will also be different. This year they are adding the A&P section (and maybe another?), which we didn't have to take before...so that is going to make the test harder and I am guessing scored will drop again. Before you pretty much needed to be in the mid 90s on the Hesi, maybe a 90 with 4.0? Not sure what will happen now.

Good Luck

It will be different next year because they are including A and P; also, it was our last 12 credits. now your gpa is the last 3 you aforementioned (comp.micro etc.). I had a 4.0 and had a HESI score of 91; I ranked 83 and start in Oct. Enjoy the journey:) Check out the thread of MCC hopefuls, it's pretty lengthy, but many students list their scores and comment on the whole process.

I had a GPA of 3.89 and HESI 94.9 and I was ranked 41. I start in August. There is a lot of good info if you search MCC or Macomb on here! Good luck! I found the HESI study guide very helpful too.

thanks for the responses! Another question, how long is the program? If, for say, a person started in august of 2010 when would they be done?? Thanks!!

If you don't have any of those 3 prereqs done by the end of the fall semester, you can kiss fall 2010 goodbye, because taking it in the winter will not earn you a grade until after the deadline of Feb 15. If you don't have priority when registering for classes at MCC, it might take a while before you'll be able to get into a micro class. There's only 7 of them at any given time. This is why I am now screwed for fall '10. I hope you have better luck than I.

Take the micro class at Baker, then transfer it. They just kept letting people into our classes there. If it closes, see a dean and they will add you in.

I took all my pre-reqs at Baker aside from the ones they didn't offer.

Don't give up! I would look at every other school in the area to take the class. There's got to be a spot somewhere! Have you tried looking for an online class? That way you can go through any school in the country that offers it! I took Micro online and it was fine. It was more expensive but convenient and MCC accepted it.
