Hey guys. It's already been over 2 weeks since I graduated from the school. All I've got to worry about now is that stinkin Nclex for PN. I just wanted to see how everyone else is getting ready for theirs and also wanted to get some advice from those that have successfully passed their boards. I would love hear about some of the helpful materials that you've been using and study methods that you use to study including how many hours and how many questions a day and so on. Thanks everyone.
Currently I've been using...
Saunders comprehensive review and Q & A review
also looking to pay for that Kaplan nclex review online since I heard a lot of people talking about it
I've also got Hurstreview and lipincott's review book but I have not been using those two because nobody had talked about them yet.
So, I decided to tell everyone here because most of us are young graduates in their 20's and very possibly be interested in whatever I'm going to be talking to you about. Last night, I was, for some strange reason, creeping on Worldvision.org website and found out about their running for Africa program. Every year Worldvision has half marathon events all over the United States to raise fund to provide clean water for poor african kids in poverty. It really touched my heart and I think I'm definitely going to start training for these events. I already ordered the shirt and everything. I would love to have fellow nursing students participate in these events with me or else where. nurses don't just make differences in this world by getting paid and working over hours at nursing homes and hospitals. What God has blessed us with is our compassionate hearts so.....if anyone want to run for these amazing lives of african children, let me know, and possibly we can run together?..:)
I took my NCLEX 10 days after I graduated and passed with 85 questions. I didn't really make much use of any of the study guides or review programs. I bought a box of Saunders review cards and took a few of the ATI practice tests I had access to. Other than that, I relied on what I had learned in school. What good was the year I had just spent sitting through classes and doing clinicals if I didn't learn enough to pass one more test?
I read a lot of posts discussing this or that review system. Remember that these "sure fire guaranteed to help you pass" programs are NOT published out of the goodness of some publisher's heart. They are published for the purpose of making money. And they are a money making machine.
My advice is take the NCLEX as soon as you can after graduation; before you forget all you learned or screw it up with a bunch of additional material. I don't care how much more studying you do you will still run into things you have never seen before. I'm not saying don't review at all but the bottom line goal of nursing school is to get you through the boards. If you graduated, you should already have the tools you need. Use the knowledge you have already worked your butt off for, have a little faith in yourself, and go pass the freakin' test!
Hello Everyone,
I am scheduled to take my nclex on Tuesday Sept. 1st:yawn:. I graduated from my class on June 25th and am the 1st one to take the nclex exam. I have been doing the questions on medspub.com and doing ati assessments. i have also been watching the ati dvd's. i did use saunders as a reference & q&a but i didn't really use it in depth. i am so nervous and after reading some of the posts i feel a little better, i guess its true if you were able to pass the classes and clinical's why shouldn't you be able to pass the nclex? (i hope i am right:confused:)
if anyone has any suggestions for last minute ways to prepare for the test or ways to relax please let me know, also any pharmacology tips would be greatly appreciated, that is my worst subject.!
itsbuzzy, what's the date for your test?
Mine isn't scheduled yet. I don't graduate for another 10 days. WV requires our transcripts along with our board application, so I have to wait to send it out.
As for which NCLEX book I have, it is Saunders Comprehensive Review. Its the newest edition. It helps alot.
wait, student 19, you are only 20? and married? and a godly woman? how perfect....we are the same age but i feel like you have so much potential coming out of you just because you have the power to depend your whole life on God's shoulders. i don't have that and I've been trying for years now. going to church and going to bible studies have become very legalistic in my life and just some meaningless rituals. Well, hopefully I learned something from you through our conversation in this thread, thanks.
Don't know exactly what to say... but you're right. I'm 20 and married and I try my best to live as a Godly women. God truly is my everything and with out him I don't know where I would be. There have been so many times when my back was against the wall but I called on the Lord and he have always made a way out. I have no choice but to depend on him. I literally can't take a breath without him. Going to church and reading the bible is great however the main important thing is to have a relationship with God. Once you have a good relationship with him you will learn how to completly depend on Him. :redbeathe

There were to girls in our PN class that took board exactly 8 days after pinning and both passed. I just took mine yesterday which was exactly 3 weeks from pinning. I think when you set your date to take the test you make up your mind then to study and stick to it. Yesterday was the closest date that I could get after receiving my ATT. I used saunders 3rd edition, we took the Sylvia Rayfield review, so I used a book called nursing made insanely easy, and the mosby 15th edition illustrated study guide which was recommended by the review instructor I also watched the ATI videos that we got while in school. I won't have my official results until tomorrow but I finished with 85 questions and got the pop up when I did the pearson vue trick. I am still sort of nervous but the trick eased my mind after the test and I was able to go to bed last nite and finally SLEEP. which was much needed at this point. Good Luck to all those that are testing and remember to have confidence in yourself and take your time answering the questions. I got really stressed out from reading the post on here sat. and sunday so I just stopped reading them. By monday my stress level was really decreased and yesterday i just said a prayer before the exam and went in and took it. So try to do your streeing before test day and maybe by the time the test time comes you will be relaxed. Sorrry this post is so long. Good Luck and figure out what works best for you as far as studying and also check at the Random Fact throwing sticky in the NCLEX discussion form its great with lots of tips and memory aids.
