TN Visa Letter Format

Published

I am a Canadian graduate of a US nursing school, about to get a TN visa next month. The hospital that has hired me has little experience with foreign nurses and has given me a letter that they "think" is what is required at the border (along with my VisaScreen certificate).

They gave me the letter, a job description and a hospital brochure. The issue is, the letter looks VERY basic to me and I'm concerned that it doesn't have the detail required.

Can anyone point me to an online resource for TN visa letter formats for nurses? I've searched the archives here to no avail, and have found lots of formats for other occupations online, but none for nursing.

Thank you!

Hi There...please, anyone could help me show the actual job offer letter for TN visa? I know It was changed to 3 years instead of 1 year recently. My job offer letter does not state exactly the # of years of employment in it. Does it supposed to say 3 years in accordance to length of TN visas? Or does it really matter if it doesn't say the #of years of job offered? PLEASE HELP!

@myring

I know you posted a few weeks ago. I'm not sure if you got your TN status, but I wanted to reply anyway. You have to have the length of employment, with start & end dates.

Hi there,

I am also interested in getting some info about this. Can an ADN nurse qualify for a tn visa? the description on the NAFTA list of professions doesnt definitively say whether or not a bsn is required.

If anyone knows, please let us know. I am canadian and planning to complete an ADN program in the states and then try to work in the states afterwards.

Thank you!

Myring,

This is what I know. TN is good for 1 year initially and then you may renew for 3 years at a time after your first year. Your offer letter should include a start and end date

Aqeelsmom,

You can indeed work in US on an ADN. If you are here on a F1 Visa you are eligible for OPT which is a 1 year authorization to work in the US. You will apply for this a couple months before graduation. The great thing about this is that they just give you an auth to work, no need to get a visa. It's good for one whole year starting from the time they issue it to you. It will make it a lot easier to find employment and give the facility a great opportunity to get to know you, so when you do need to get a TN they'll be more than happy to help you.

Hope that helps

Does anyone have a template of a good TN letter? I could really used one to compare to the one they are giving me

Thanks!

I am a Canadian nurse looking to get my TN visa also. Do I need a visa screen even if I finished UNIVERSITY in the states? Did you have to apply for your visa screen or did your hospital just give you one?

I also went to the school in the US and still had to do the Visascreen which is not something the hospital does but something you have to apply for from CGFNS.

How long did it take you to get your visa screen? I am scheduled to start work in 2 weeks so I am scared I won't have enough time.

Specializes in Medical and general practice now LTC.

VSC is required and as mentioned obtained by yourself via CGFNS

I applied for my visa screen at the beginning of Nov. 2011, all my documents were received as of the end of Dec. 2011, and I just got the confirmation today that it was completed successfully and just waiting for it in the mail.

You can PM me and I will give you my email address. I am also Canadian and went to school in the US for my RN. I had a TN in the past and could send you a copy of what the hospital provided for me. I had NO problem at the border.

Hi there,

I was just wondering if you could also send me a copy of that TN visa letter? I would really appreciate it as I am in the process of fixing all my documents.

Thank you so much.
