Tips for Chemistry in Summer?

Published

I'm taking Intro to Chem this summer. It's a five week class and I'm a little nervous. Any tips for me or others taking the class this summer?

Specializes in I'm in on a floating NA team so I'm all.

I'm taking Chem 104 (Intro to Chemical Principles) during our spring semester and Chem 201 (Intro to Organic and Biological Chem) during our summer semester. 104 hasn't been bad so far. I'm extremely lucky that I have a GREAT professor that teaches so well!!! I suggest just going to every class and not skipping, keeping up on your readings and doing your homework. Even if they don't assign homework do the review questions at the end of the chapter for practice! If you don't understand ask. Don't be afraid to talk to the prof! I email mine on a regualr basis (they're probably annoyed with me).Basically just be a good student and pay close attention!!!!

Are you taking other classes as well?

Good luck!!!

Brush up on your math. :) I am going to take it soon too... I am super nervous but like Stephanie K said, do review questions even if you don't get hw. Always be ahead and sit in front of the class so you don't get distracted. :) It is also really good to have a close student/prof. relationship. It works for me because usually the teacher will give me an extra push if I needed it. Study groups always help too, so find 2-4 people around you that are willing to meet up atleast once or twice a week before or after class to study or review. :) Good luck, you'll do finnnnee.

Brush up on your math. :)

Absolutely this.

I've just finished chem this spring quarter (Got an A- and worked my butt off for it) and if you haven't taken a chemistry class in awhile, I'd brush up on the basics (atomic structure, isomers and ions, matter and energy, chemical bonding etc.) Pay attention in class and take notes, and always ask for help when you need it. Trust me, some things will have you thrown through a loop. As long as you do all the assigned work and don't skip class, you'll do just fine.

Good luck! :yeah:

here are some websites that helped me while i was taking chemistry this past semester:

the chemguy on youtube has tons of video examples: http://www.youtube.com/user/bannanaiscool

i loved this website that helped with lewis structures: http://www.kentchemistry.com/links/bonding/lewisdotstruct.htm

and i loved this site for balancing chemical equations (double checking your work) : http://www.webqc.org/balance.php

good luck! you'll do great :wink2:
