Timeline for endorsing RN license to CA

Published

I am interested to hear anyones experience in endorsing their license into CA. I used the online endorsement as well as the livescan fingerprinting. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

I also am still waiting and have been since June. I was told Monday they are almost done with May applicants and should start June applicants within the next week. The BON contact also informed me that it usually takes 10-14 weeks from the day your check has been cashed and entered into the breeze system to receive a permanent license. It's frustrating how you call about status and they can't give you any information in regards to them receiving your transcripts. You have to wait until they are actually working on your file.

Hi Everyone,

This thread has been really useful to me to keep my self calm through this nerve breaking system. I mailed my application in 26th May and check was cashed on 13th June. On 27th July, I got to know they received my school course work empty so I had to send that again. Now they are again telling me to wait for 4-6 weeks for that document to process through some stupid system they have. I am so frustrated by their answers and god knows when they will confirm about my documents. Please advice if we can report or file a complain against the system.

The board recieved my app via mail with paper fingerprint cards on 8/12. My breeze account was created on 8/28. Check cashed on 9/1. I used nursys to verify from Texas.

I requested a temp. Does anyone have a timeline idea for a temp license? I realize I probably have a good 8 weeks or so, at least, for the perm but am hoping for a temp sooner.

I have active TX and PA licenses. PA is my original but does not participate in nursys, so I just did it for Texas. It seemed like this was okay from everything online. Does anyone have any idea if they would need verification from my orginal state?

Thanks.

Does anyone know if hospitals tend to accept temporary licenses?

I plan on being in CA in a couple of weeks and want to do the LiveScan process to get the fingerprints done. I noticed that on the LiveScan forms there is a space for a CA driver's license. The question probably has been asked already but what did you guys put there? Did you guys leave it blank? I've called the BRN numerous times to ask thosse question and I'm either put on hold or told to call back due to high call volumes. Thank you guys in advance!

You can leave it blank and when you go to LiveScan center just ask the person. I think I had put N/A since I didn't have CA license.

I am sure they need verification from PA. That is also my original state license. I called the PA board of nursing to ask if my verification to CA can be expedited-the person I spoke to said it generally will go out in 10 days. I paid for temp license but only got a perm which took only 6 wks. From all the posts I have read, it seems the only way they will give you a temp is if you go to the CA BON.

My travel company sent me an overnight box package with detailed instructions to help expedite the process. I was sent the CA nursing application and the Live Scan instructions. I live in Alabama and there is a Live Scan process for out of state residents. I had to get 2 fingerprint cards done at the police station. Since I already had the cards it was $10 total. Then there is a Live Scan form that you fill out, the info you need is on the CA board of nursing's website. You send 3 copies of that to the Live Scan address along with the fingerprint cards, I believe a copy of your license and payment in a overnight box. Since my travel company set it up they included a letter for them to be billed the $100 fee. I also included a self addressed envelope for Live Scan to send me confirmation back. In about 2 days I received 2 confirmation slips, one for my records and one to send along to the board of nursing. I overnighted the Live Scan confirmation, my Ca nur app and a money order for $150 for the temp and permanent license on Aug 13. Alabama only does online verification request so I didn't mail them the license verification slip I just requested it online and I emailed my university the transcript request form and paid over the phone. I registered for Breezez to check my status and it said submitted on 8/18. For a couple of weeks it said missing education history. Being paranoid after reading this forum I contacted my school and verified they sent my transcript the week after 8/13. I also called the Ca board of nursing on 8/31 to ask if I needed to resend my transcript. He assured me that I didn't at that message about missing education history is a default statement in the system. If they need anything that you are missing I was told a letter would be sent in the mail. I checked today 9/1 and now my status just says open. from what I've read it's not long before the license is issued after that. So I'll keep everyone posted. Also I took a prereq at another school that I forgot about and didn't send the transcript from there. Just the one from the university I graduated from and took all my other classes at. Hope this helps.[/quote

I was told that you need to send all college transcripts that you attended and contributed to your nursing degree. Also the only live scan that CA BON accepts are those that you do in the state of CA. You can do finger print cards in your home state but its different from livescan. I got my CA license in 6 wks by first doing the livescan then sending in all my college transcripts, NURSYS and PA license verification and finally the application.

So you didn't have to go to the CA BRN? Also, when did you turn in your application? I'm amazed it only took you six weeks. I'm jealous actually!

I am so upset with how the system works.

My cheque was cashed last June 2, 2015. I had to wait for 8 weeks just for them to tell me that they need additional personal and school documents.

I had to mail those documents and wait again for almost a month for it to reach my analyst's desk. The analyst told me that once the documents are received, it is usually processed the same day.

Last Tuesday it has been completed and only to find out that the analyst assigned for my case has been transferred to another office. I had been emailing and leaving voicemails since last week but no one answers. I called today and made sure I speak to someone since I did not get any reply.

I spoke to someone and said that there are a lot of papers that came before me. That calling is just delaying time for them to work with papers and we'll be circling around. I said I just need a reply so I would know my situation. It was really uncomfortable and upsetting to talk to that person.

I understand that they are busy and frustrated too but that doesn't give them the right to answer rudely. :-( :-( :-( :-( :-(

Thanks. My status already says "open" on breeze, it's only been 3 weeks since they got my application...fingers crossed for a temp, but not getting my hopes up.

No I didnt go to the BON-I was thinking about it but couldnt find a cheap enough airfare to justify going there plus I kept extending on my then travel contract so I was ok with the 3 month timeframe that BON was saying it will take me to get the license.
