  1. I haven't had any issues so far. I've had a few offers from facilities, and it hasn't been a problem.
  2. At long last, I have my temporary license!!! Here's how my timeline went: 7/16 Transcripts and Nursys verification sent 7/17 Flew to LA to do Live Scan; mailed in completed application 8/6 Received email from Breeze, status pending open with missing education history 8/6 Check cashed 8/14 Called DOJ hotline, DOJ & FBI completed and reported to agency on 7/31 8/24 Status says open, no deficiencies listed 9/18 Called the BRN and left voicemail for supervisor, called again to speak to an actual person. He said they didn't have my fingerprints, but I told him I called the DOJ. So he said someone would "investigate" why I didn't have my temp license yet and that I'd get a call within 10 days 10/1 Called the BRN again because I never got a call back. The lady said they still don't have my fingerprints, referred me to the BRN website for processing times, which is 10-12 weeks for both Endorsement and Temporary license. I filed a complaint because I don't think it makes sense that the processing time is the same for both and I'm essentially losing $50. 10/2 Checked Breeze and the license number shows up for my Temporary License! I don't think it's sunk in yet, but I'm definitely relieved that now I can continue planning my life!
  3. Is that the form that the schools are supposed to fill out (or at least the bottom half)? I think I let them just write it down because I don't remember having to put anything there. I could be wrong though. Sorry, that was probably not helpful.
  4. I left mine blank. The live scan person said that was fine, and when I called the DOJ hotline it sounded like there were no issues with my fingerprints.
  5. Thanks for the heads up, I didn't know they had that chart posted. That is completely absurd that the timeframe for the temporary is the same as the permanent. Of course upon following this thread it seems people have been getting their permanent license before ever receiving a temporary. Still, it's the principle of it. Why even have the option to apply for a temporary then? So frustrating! Let us know what happens with your complaint. Good luck.
  6. So you didn't have to go to the CA BRN? Also, when did you turn in your application? I'm amazed it only took you six weeks. I'm jealous actually!
  7. Mine says the same thing, as of about a week ago. Have you been able to get a hold of the BRN?

It's not that it's a big deal necessarily; I'm prepared to work at least every other weekend and am just curious about people's experiences. I own a condo so I'd like to come home and see family/friends whenever I can. Weekends would be the ideal time to do that, is all.

I promise I did a search and looked through all 10 pages of results, so I apologize if this has already been discussed at length. From what I found though, there weren't too many specifics about working weekends as a traveler. I am new to traveling and am looking for my first assignment in acute care. It sounds like it's pretty common for facilities to allow self-scheduling. Granted, we are hired to fill needs and we should be flexible, so it makes sense that travelers can't always get the schedules they want. A nurse manager from a hospital emailed me saying her unit requires working every other weekend. I know you can put in your contract requested days off (such as a stretch of days off), but do any of you have experiences negotiating how many weekends or weekend shifts you work? Or have you ended up working less weekends due to staff nurses filling weekend shift needs? Admittedly, I have gotten spoiled the last 5 years as a staff nurse only being required to work two weekend shifts a month and realize that I will likely have to let go of this luxury. But I am curious as to people's experiences with weekends while traveling. Thanks!
  10. That's what mine says right now. I assume that's normal?
  11. Did you have to call to follow up on the "missing education history" before it changed to "open"? Mine currently says "missing education history", and I called both universities I attended to confirm that they sent my transcripts. It's still too early for me to call the BRN since it's only been three weeks since I turned everything in.
  12. Thanks for all the tips!
  13. Thanks for the info! Do you happen to know what agencies contract with Long Beach Memorial and Hoag?
  14. I know American Mobile is the largest company and has the "monopoly" on the Los Angeles/Southern California area. I'm interested in hospitals like UCLA, Cedars Sinai, Keck in LA but also hospitals like UC Irvine or Hoag in the OC. Apparently American Mobile doesn't seem to have the best reputation, so do you guys know of other agencies that contract with these top-rated hospitals? Thanks!
