I am interested to hear anyones experience in endorsing their license into CA. I used the online endorsement as well as the livescan fingerprinting. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks
Anyone who got their CA license past the 90 days verification on NURSYS-did you have to pay a second fee. The reason I am asking is that when I try to verify my DC license to CA on NURSYS it says "verification already sent". So I sent a message to NURSYS in IL and a customer rep called me back and she stated that I had verification sent in 2010 and once sent -no need to resend another one. I told her I don't think the CA BON is aware of this. So anyone with info -please let me know. Thanks.
Hi again. I just received my temporary license today and I was quite shocked to get it. I had even applied to TX and gotten a license there because I was told that I wouldn't have my CA license anytime soon. So I mailed everything 1/7/15 and paid the $199.00 for the temp and permanent. 1/15/15 they cashed my check. I called mid Feb and was told to call back in a few weeks when it had gotten closer to 6 weeks since my check was cashed, that they were still working on Nov apps. So I called a few weeks later and they couldn't tell me if they had all my transcripts or anything yet and was told they were still working on Dec apps. A recruiter gave me the numbers of some supervisors so I started calling them since we were now at 7 and 8 weeks since I applied for my temp (their website says it will be issued in 6-8 weeks). The supervisor I spoke to seemed very annoyed with me for calling and said they hadn't even sent my fingerprints to the FBI yet and that would take 2 to 4 weeks to receive back from them. Still couldn't tell me if they had everything I needed because no one started to look at my file yet. He did suggested that he could maybe rush things if I flew out to CA and did the live scan and of course pay more money to have that done. I live in FL and that would have cost me close to $1000 which he seemed to think was an acceptable solution. So I gave up and moved my sights to TX (btw got a temp license in 9 business days from TX). I decided to check back with CA one more time before applying in TX and the lady at the 800 number said it would be at least 4 weeks before anyone even started to look at my application and told me that the temporary license is not there so you can get it sooner, it's there in case you need to take education requirements so you can work while you're taking classes. This is not what is written on their website. I double checked and found no indication of that. I decided to file a report online with the Dept of Consumer Affairs. I think that was Tuesday. Because it's ridiculous to have so many people paying extra money for something they most likely won't get and they don't refund it either. Got an email today from someone at the board of nursing apologizing about this and saying that she has issued me a temporary license. So maybe reporting it to consumer affairs is the way to go. Good luck to everyone else.
So I have been waiting since I sent all of my stuff into the BRN in January. I actually took a shot and emailed the Department of Consumer Affairs to file a formal complaint about the temporary license fee and how I have been waiting a long time. Sure enough, my permanent license popped up within 24 hours of my email. So anyone who's waiting, feel free to email a complaint! Sure speeds up the process.
Here is my timeline:
1/9/15 Requested fingerprint cards from BRN
1/20/15 gave up on waiting for cards, went to local police dept and got my fingerprints done on cards they supplied.
1/23/15 sent everything (application, fingerprint cards, personal check, etc)
2/2/15 Check cashed, status pops up as "deficient education" or whatever that is and lists my colleges
2/10/15 Call BRN to check status of temp license, was told the only way they issue those is if you are intact deficient in education so you can take the required classes. I was furious.
3/615 Status changed from "Open" to "Pending" with the deficient education gone.
3/25/15 Read this thread, email the department of consumer affairs to file a formal complaint about the temp license issue and the overall wait.
3/26/15 Permanent License number popped up on Breeze I literally could not stop laughing when I saw the number. All that waiting, calling, hoping and frustration. All it took was a simple email. That just shows how easy it is for them to issue the numbers, but they just don't.
Here is the email I sent:
Hello,
I am writing to you to file a complaint against the California Board of Nursing. I am in the process of getting my Registered Nursing license endorsed by the state of California from Mississippi. When applying for my license by endorsement, I was given the option to pay an extra $50 for a temporary license. On the application it explains that these are issued within 6-8 weeks and are issued faster than the full license giving the nurse opportunity to work while the permanent license is being processed. I called the Board of Nursing to check the status of my temporary license and was told the only way that they issue a temporary license is if they feel that you are deficient in education. They will issue it to you so you may take the classes they are requiring and then be issued a permanent license. Nowhere on the application does it explain this. It only says that you can pay the extra $50 for a faster license. I paid the extra $50 and will not be receiving my temporary license, or a refund. I feel that I paid that extra fee based on a fraudulent statement. I am just told to sit and wait for my permanent license. Which, I started the application process with the Board of Nursing in January. I have been unemployed for three months while I have been waiting for California to issue me some sort of license. I was depending on the temporary license so I could begin working. Please look into this issue. Tons of nursing from out of state are paying this extra $50 and getting nothing for it.
Thank you,
Kayla Lawless, RN
I got this email today (a day after my license posted, two days after my complaint)

When you guys say the date check cashed, do you mean the date your application was opened on the breeze account? I sent them money order. I completed all the required apps beginning of January. I called today, they looked me up through my SSN and stated my app was received 1/26 and all my transcripts. They said it takes 60 - 90 days from the day the app is received :/
