Timeline for endorsing RN license to CA

Published

I am interested to hear anyones experience in endorsing their license into CA. I used the online endorsement as well as the livescan fingerprinting. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

I am just about to start the endorsement process and have some questions about my transcripts. Is everyone just having theirs sent from their schools online without using the Request For Transcript form? I saw the past posts about getmytranscripts but am unable to find that site.

I finally received my California license today! Man this has been a long journey!

My experience with the CA BON is as follows: CA will request transcripts from every school you attended. For instance, if you took an online course from one school to fulfill a pre-req, you need to contact that school and have a transcript sent. I found this strange since the school you graduate from accepted the outside course and it appears on your transcript, but CA wants to see the original transcript from the school that delivered the course.

I would go online to your school's website and request that your transcripts be sent to the CA BON. If you can't do it online, I would call the school and request transcripts over the phone. Make sure you have the BON mailing address to give to the school. Sorry, I don't know anything about third party transcript services. I would feel safer going directly through the school.

I think CA BON is a little slow but you will get your license once everything is submitted! Good luck!

Hi everyone,

By reading all of these comments, it seems like a long journey to endorse RN license to CA! I have couple questions on application process.

1. Do I turn in the fingerprint card with the application?

2. Does CA BRN receive the fingerprint card then process background checks?

3. Do they accept personal checks? Or should it be traveler's check?

Thanks in advance!

How close are you to California? Best bet is to do your Livescan fingerprinting in person there, way faster. I was on vacation in Los Angeles in late 2013 and knew at some point I'd want to do travel nursing in California so I did Livescan while there. At that time my license only took 2 months to get from application to license in the mail. Not sure if it is longer now but it's worth the trip nevertheless. Sending in a fingerprint card I hear takes a LOT longer to process!

I seem to recall sending a personal check with no problem.

Sent from my iPad using allnurses

I turned my finger print card in with my application. I also sent a check so I could tell when they receive everything. I wish I could have went to California to get my finger prints done but I couldn't. The process is long. I received my finger print cards in October, turned the packet in with the card and they cashed the check in November. I was told my finger prints were clear in December and I received my license in January. The longest part to me was waiting on the finger print cards. I requested them in July and did not receive them till October.

Thanks PacoUSA and Camwill. I won't be able to go Cali for livescan. I live out of state and too far from Cali. It will gost $1k + for a roundtrip for me. Wow, that's a long process to get fingerprint cards! It states 2 weeks on the website but 3 months? I requested mine yesterday. I hope it will come soon :/

I submitted my application by certified mail with signature confirmation that was delivered and signed for on Jan 26. I sent everything all in one package (fingerprint card, payment including $50 for temp license, application etc). I completed the Nursys verification on Jan 9, not realizing how long all the other crap would take. I have yet to see my check being cashed. I logged into Breeze just to see, not expecting anything and it says "Pending" and missing Education History. Also, under notes it says:

  • TX (VENTURA COLLEGE) IN SUSP 02/06/15 RM

Ventura College is the college I attended for my pre req's, and I also sent transcripts from the college I actually graduated from nursing school in MS. Does this mean that they have not gotten my MS Transcripts?

Just got through to the BON to check the status of my temp license because I paid the extra $50 in hopes of getting that sooner than my permanent so I can begin job hunting. Well, the nice lady on the phone informed me that the only circumstance that they issue temporary licenses is when you have a deficiency in the education criteria. Basically, they will only give it to you so you can take whatever class is missing. I do not understand why they do not make that perfectly clear on the freaking application! No wonder so many people have never received their temporary license that they paid for! And she told me that I have a minimum wait of 10 weeks. This is absurd.:arghh:

So I just spoke with someone at the 800 number. I overnighted my application/fingerprint cards/check ($199 for temp and permanent license) on 1/7/15. They cashed my check on 1/16/15. The woman I spoke with originally couldn't find my application because for some reason my social security number isn't listed on my application. She said that there's nothing else listed besides that they have my application and said multiple times that it's still a new application (at almost a month old, when most other states would have issued a license already) and told me to check back in about 2.5 weeks to see where it was at. I was taking a few weeks off between travel assignments and hoping to start in the beginning of March. Now I'm trying to decide if I should try to take a short assignment in my home state (FL) or wait it out.

Don't count on CA. Like they told me yesterday, they are just now giving licenses to Nov applicants. So don't hold your breath and don't count on a Temp license unless you are mussing college classes they require

Just posting my timeline for those who find it helpful:

11/05/14 - mailed my application along with completed fingerprint card, sent by registered mail.

11/07/14 - USPS showed that package had been received.

11/08/14 - completed online Nursys verification and requested transcript from my school

12/05/14 - check finally cleared bank account. This is the date that the CABoN used as my application start date.

12/09/14 - finally showed up on the Breeze website with "Missing Education History" (now known to be the default response meaning "we haven't done anything but cash your check")

02/13/15 - called the 1800 number multiple times throughout December and January and received the usual "we're processing applications from x-date, there's quite a delay". Spoke with ----------------- on this date who said that the evaluators hadn't looked at my application yet, but that my background check had cleared, said I should call back in a week.

02/20/15 - License number showed up on Breeze website.

Good luck :)
